Light has always been one of the most important ways of expression in the history of western painting,and it is an indispensable key factor in learning the history of western painting.Painters from various genres have different research directions and focuses on the use of light.The existence of light is also the embodiment of the spiritual value of oil paintings.As one of western light and shadow painting masters,Rembrandt is good at using spotlight-like light and shadow effect to express theatrical pictures,highlight themes and create space.He also pays more attention to the emotional expression and symbolic meaning of light to characters,so as to express the spiritual connotation and emotional comprehension deep in human nature.This paper takes the expressive power of light in Rembrandt's works as the entry point,compares the artists of the same period with later ones and discusses the essence of Rembrandt's use of light through multi-level comparison.In terms of research method,the full text quotes painters and works that are inspiring and guiding in the use of light in the art history,analyzes the spiritual value and theatrical effect of the use of light in works as well as emphasizes the theatrical effect and human thinking in the creation of Rembrandt's oil paintings by use of light.In terms of research approach,the first chapter analyzes the similarities of light's use in painting creation and stage art,as well as the different visual effects produced by the intensity of light,and then discusses the importance of light in paintings;the second chapter,the focus of the paper,discusses the specific performance and characteristics of the theatrical painting style in Rembrandt's paintings,and analyzes from five levels,namely the theatrical expression of light,the prominence of main image,the creation of space atmosphere,the perception of space distance and the partition of picture with light,each of which uses specific work analysis to illustrate the author's argument;the third chapter discusses the emotional expression and symbolic metaphor of light in Rembrandt's works,revealing the loneliness and thinking deep in human soul,which is exactly the greatest inspiration and shock his works bring us.This paper takes the stage effect of light as the entry point,briefly analyzes the theatrical effect of light,mainly discusses the expressive value and characteristic effect of light in Rembrandt's paintings,and then emphasizes that Rembrandt's works are different from that of ordinary painters.The use of light in his works reflects the deep thinking and spiritual perception of human nature,which is exactly the significant contribution he has made to the development of the entire history of painting,with a profound enlightenment for future generations.
