As the carrier of Chinese,Chinese characters,which records the time-honored history of Chinese civilization and is one of the most intuitive ways to show Chinese culture to the world.As a unique square character,it also have the function of expressing sound and meaning,that is different from Pinyin characters.In the research of Chinese teaching and learning,there are few researches on Chinese learning strategies of Lao students,especially on Chinese characters learning strategies.In addition to individual differences,teaching methods,teaching materials and other factors,a non-negligible aspect is the learning strategy of Chinese characters.As the background,based on literature research,questionnaire survey and interview,and on the basis of the theory of learning strategies and constructivism,it is investigated in this paper about the use and distribution characteristics of Chinese character learning strategies of Lao middle level students,and analyzes the use of Chinese character learning strategies of different gender,different test grade and different test scores.It is summarized in the paper about the suggestions on the use of Chinese characters learning strategies for Lao international students at middle level and also on the teachers' teaching.Based on the data analysis,the following conclusions are drawn: First,In terms of the learning background of Chinese characters,the average years of Lao middle level students on learning Chinese is 2 years,and the average length of learning Chinese is 2.5 days per week during online learning period;Their feelings about the difficulty of Chinese characters are between very difficult and difficult,and their liking is between very like and general.It is generally believed that Chinese characters are very important;Second,about 73.8% of the students think that it is more effective to learn Chinese characters by using Chinese characters learning methods under the guidance of teachers,but it is undeniable that 26.2% of the students still think that it is more effective to learn Chinese characters by repeated recitation and copying;Third,from the frequency of the use of strategies,whether it is the general strategy or the sub strategy the results show that the average rate is between 2.8-4,which does not reach the state of universal use;Forth,There is no significant difference in the use of strategies among students of different genders and scores,but there is difference in the frequency and the use-order of strategy;Fifth,There is significant difference in the use of character strategy,phonological strategy and monitoring strategy among students of different grades.it is showed that the usage rate of students who passed HSK 5 is significantly higher than students of HSK 4.Finally,with further analysis of the main conclusions and main problems found in this paper,some suggestions on Chinese character learning strategies of Lao students in middle level and teachers' teaching are drawn,which are of practical significance for Chinese character learning of learners from Lao middle level and teachers' teaching in the later stage.
