The paper select foreign students in middle level as the survey object,based on the seven learning strategies of Chinese characters commonly used by foreign students,such as glyph strategy,stroke strategy,semantic strategy,induction strategy,review strategy,application strategy and metacognitive strategy,investigating 40 foreign students specialized in Teaching Chinese to Foreigners of Other Languages in Shanghai International Studies University in questionnaires and interviewing forms and so on.The author uses Microsoft and SPSS statistical software to analyze the data collected from questionnaires to explore the basic condition of the use of Chinese character learning strategies of middle-level foreign students.Then on the basis of analyzing result,we selected the students who are good at and not good at Chinese Characters to investigate privately for finding the essential difference between them.The study shows that:(1)The Chinese learning strategies of foreign students in middle level commonly used is the semantic strategy,and then are application strategy,glyph strategy,induction strategy,stroke strategy and metacognitive strategy.They use review strategy sometimes.(2)The non-Chinese character circle of foreign students of middle level are more frequently used Chinese characters learning strategies than the Chinese circle foreign students.(3)The students who are good at and not good at Chinese characters learning showed evident individual differences regardless of the performance of the class,homework and extracurricular learning.The author put forward several enlightenment to Chinese characters teaching and learning based on the study's conclusion which is correlate with the foreign students Chinese characters learning strategy:(1)Enriching the Chinese character teaching to arise students' interest;(2)Explaining the rationale of Chinese characters so that students can follow the rules;(3)Putting the characters into the paragraph to help students understanding the meaning and the use of them;(4)Contrasting the characters with seemly near same glyph and sound to lead students to induct and memory;(5)Implementing class examination to review the knowledge students learnt before.There are advice for students on character learning:(1)Correct stroke order helps to memorize characters;(2)Correlation to characters learned before are useful to recognize new one pronunciation and meaning.(3)Metacognitive strategy could help you to improve character learning.
