| The report is about the E-C translation of Chapter One to Chapter Three in the Basic Documents Volume I publicly issued by the United Nations World Tourism Organization in February 2016.The selected part of the Documents introduces mainly the legal framework,role and functions of the organization,including the statutes and rules of procedure of the governing bodies and main committees of the organization,as well as the Articles on the recognition as the UN specialized agencies.The document belongs to official text,characterized by a great amount of proper nouns,legal terms and long sentences with complex structure and passive sentences.Given the features of the text and the translation purpose of being faithful to the source text,Skopos Theory is adopted as the theoretical guidance,which is centered on skopos rule,coherence rule,and fidelity rule,to reproduce the solemn and concise style characteristics of the text.Analysis on the source text conforming to the skopos rules,translational techniques such as amplification,paraphrase and annotation are employed to deal with the translation of proper nouns and terms in order to deliver acceptable expression.Translation skills are adopted to render natural and fluent translations under the guidance of coherence rule,such as division,conversion and reversing.According to fidelity rule,the logic relations become consistent by employing amplification and substitution in the translated text.Through the analysis of the translated official documents and the characteristics of the UN official documents,the translator finds that Skopos Theory being rational and reliable for the translation of such text.The findings and reflections are expected to provide valuable advice and reference for future translation work. |
