The translation material selected for the translation project is a detective-themed interactive game,"Interrogation: You will be deceived," released by Critical-Gaming in 2019.The translator chooses the Functional Equivalence Theory to guide the translation process.Under the guidance of Functional Equivalence Theory,the translator takes the process,the information transmission,the purpose of the game designer,and the player's experience into consideration.The translation of the game operation interface and the the case files achieves equivalent in informative function;The translation of the game character dialogue highlights the equivalence of its expressive functions;The translation of the news text in the game and the game skills confirms the equivalence of the vocative function.The translator also takes game design into account so that the translation satisfies the two most essential functions of game design:information and interaction.This translation practice aims to reproduce the game design and the characters in the target text by not stick to the form of the original text while maintaining the game experience,maximizing the transmission of the original text's information so that the Chinese players can have the same game experience as the English players.To sum up,it is feasible to adopt the Functional Equivalence Theory to guide the translation of game text.The translator hopes that this project can provide experience for future work on game localization and a references for related translations.
