Alongside the popularity of electronic devices such as mobile phones and computers, the game industry has developed rapidly in China.A large number of reputable foreign games have flooded into the market as well.To fulfil the expectations of Chinese gamers, developers gradually noticed the importance of localisation before introducing games into the market.Game localisation has become a decisive factor in determining the quality of games. This thesis studies strategies for translating texts of Sid Meier's Civilization VI from the perspective of functional equivalence. It discusses how best to translate different game texts and offers feasible reference points for the practice of game localization. With the game Sid Meier's Civilization ?,translation mistakes, including mis-translated terms and ambiguous pronouns appear. In the thesis, the author offers several strategies for game localization based on player reviews on simplified Chinese version of Sid Meier's Civilization ?.First, translators shall adhere to terminology database and pre-translation preparation. When multiple translations are available for one term, the translators shall discuss with the project manager, reach a solution together and update the database if necessary.Second, the translators shall play the game and/or learn the background, interface and story of the game in advance so as to fully understand the original context. These will be conducive to faithfully convey the game content.Third, the translators shall concentrate on improving their personal language skills and avoid under or over translation. It is recommended to flexibly adopt various translation strategies such as literal translation, free translation and transcreation when faced with different texts.
