The portraits of Confucius who saw Laozi in the Han Dynasty often appeared in tomb portraits, and had a certain symbolic meaning and sense of ritual.Confucius and Laozi,as representatives of Confucianism and Taoism, respectively, were respected and admired in society.Through the sorting and analysis of images, this article attempts to explore the issues of Confucius' s questioning of rituals,Confucius' s questioning of Taoism, respecting teachers and the elderly, modest and studious, and the cultural significance of image construction from the perspectives of ritual history and Taoist history. In terms of image analysis, with the help of the relationship between image composition and layout, the ideological connotation of respecting the old and learning, respecting the elders and being inferior to the left and being inferior to the right is further expanded behind the image. When exploring its historical reasons, this article tried to explore the tradition of Taoism history, preaching and accepting teachers as an entry point, thinking about the similarities and similarities of early Confucianism and Taoism, and their respective influences,in order to interpret the sages represented by the images. The social influence of Confucianism, the connection with religion, and even how the image was popular in the Han Dynasty at that time, laid the foundation for exploring social and cultural issues such as the conflict between "Confucianism and Taoism" from multiple angles.
