Research On Emergency Language Landscape In Nanjing Under The Background Of The Epidemic

In recent years,linguistic landscapes have gradually become a popular research in academic circles at home and abroad.It is of great significance to study the language in a specific space and its deep cultural value,economic value and spiritual value.Under the background of COVID-19,all kinds of emergency slogans related to epidemic prevention and control have emerged all over the country,and Nanjing is no exception.This paper is divided into six parts.The first part is a review of the literature from the aspects of language landscape translation,multilingual,language elements,language teaching,etc.Meanwhile,taking Nanjing emergency language landscape samples and expatriates in Nanjing as the research object,taking Nanjing emergency linguistic landscapes' designing and its communication effect as the research content,this paper discusses the construction of the emergency linguistic landscape from the views of foreigners in Nanjing.The second part briefly introduces the background information of Nanjing emergency language landscape samples collected by the author,and makes a text statistical analysis of the emergency linguistic landscapes in the places which are foreigners gathered(such as universities,public transportation,scenic spots,shopping malls,communities and hospitals)from the aspects of code type and combination,form structure,translation and function,and finds that Chinese is the dominant cod in the local emergency linguistic landscapes.In the process of text analysis,it is found that lexical difficulty has a greater influence on text difficulty than average sentence length.In the third part,the paper made a questionnaire about “Research on the communication effect of emergency language landscape for foreigners in Nanjing”,which is based on the theory of “uses and satisfactions”,and then analyzed the background information,information cognition,satisfaction and individual behavior of these respondents.The results are as follows.1.In terms of cognition,for the emergency language landscape with Chinese code,foreigners in Nanjing express selective cognition,that is,they only know part of the content of the slogan,not all of the content.In addition,signs with pictures and multilingual signs can help them understand.2.In terms of satisfaction,more than half of the foreigners were satisfied with the local emergency linguistic landscapes,and affirmed the protective role of the emergency linguistic landscape,and the translation is standard and update is timely.In terms of code selection,there is a large demand for Chinese English bilingual signs,but in fact,there is a small number of such signs in the local area.3.The results show that,although there are still some deficiencies in the construction of emergency linguistic landscapes from the perspective of foreign people in Nanjing,the overall transmission effect is better.The fourth part of the paper summarizes the shortcomings of Nanjing emergency linguistic landscapes in terms of code selection,appearance setting and slogan updating from the perspective of communication subjects based the above research results and the results of the questionnaire survey,which is about the communication effect of emergency linguistic landscapes for foreigners in Nanjing.Finally,the paper gives suggestions on the setting up of emergency linguistic landscapes and the language education of foreigners from the three stages before,during and after the construction of emergency linguistic landscapes.
