Xia Yan is a literary revolutionary soldier,but also an excellent playwright.His dramas are famous for their peaceful style in modern drama.However,Xia Yan’s drama research has long remained in the scope of the study text.This paper studies the dramatic features of Xia Yan’s dramas,and the ontology of Xia Yan’s dramas.This paper tries to answer the fundamental question of “what is Xia Yan’s drama ”.In order to strengthen political propaganda,Xia Yan insisted that literature describe real life and pursue drama conflict in his works when he first joined the literary revolutionary team.After accepting the criticism of historical drama,To a certain extent,the historical drama creation under the guidance of this dramatic concept destroys the authenticity and artistry of the drama,runs counter to the original intention of trying to play the combat function through the popular dramatic art,and has been criticized by the academic circle.Xia Yan changed his creative direction and insisted on taking the “human” as the center and paying attention to the emotional changes of the characters.Focusing on and narrating class struggle remains the core element of his creation.This drama view drawed the distance between national defense drama and the public,and was Xia Yan’s re-understanding of drama political propaganda.Besides external criticism,reading European and Soviet literature and classical Chinese opera gave Xia Yan a deeper understanding of the drama.The change of the concept of drama will inevitably bring about the renewal of the technique of drama creation.This change also makes Xia Yan’s dramatic works present three classic drama conflict modes,from Sai Jin Hua to Under the Roofs of Shanghai to Fa Xi Si Xi Jun,It ’s the dynamic transformation process of Xia Yan’s drama conflict mode.from external drama conflict to the change of characters’ internal emotion,the creative style becomes more and more mature.He placed the characters in the situation of “similar emotion” but “realistic rejection ”,grasped the real details of life,gave the characters“peaceful” lines,and used“pause” to give readers the space to imagine.Xia Yan paid attention to drama thought,so as to guide the development of drama and achieve the unity of drama structure.In the text of Xia Yan’s drama,there is a conflict and balance between “external drama ” and “inner drama”.Xia Yan paid attention to the tragic fate of women in the late Qing Dynasty,the sad fate of the little people,deeply watched the struggle and destruction under the war era,and complained of the dark society.The dramatic core of Xia Yan’s dramas is the capital “human”,which has both the temperature of human nature and the internal tension.Xia Yan’s view of drama was consistent with many drama theorists and pay more attention to “human”,which was also the artistic pursuit of Xia Yan’s life.
