A Study Of Three-syllable Probable Mood Adverbs In Modern Chinese

Since "bu yi ding" "bu jian de" "shuo bu ding" "shuo bu zhun" "zhi bu ding" "bao bu zhu" "bao bu ding" "bao bu zhun" "bao bu qi" "nong bu hao" are all trisyllables in form and have the usage of modal adverbs,so,they are subject to research.We will systematically investigates their evolution,syntactic,semantic and pragmatic features from the perspectives of diachronic and synchronic.This paper consists of four chapters:On the basis of analyzing the corpus,the first chapter describes the diachronic evolution of trisyllabic probabilistic modal adverbs.From the perspective of evolution,except "bao bu zhun",other words have gone through the stage of turning from phrase to adverb;In terms of the degree of evolution," bu jian de " has been grammatically transformed into an adverb,while other words are still in the process of grammaticalization,Finally,this chapter also explains the evolution motivation behind them.The second chapter examines the inclusion and definition of trisyllabic or probabilistic modal adverbs in four dictionaries,and on this basis,reanalyzes their semantic similarities and differences.The common points are subjective speculation,uncertainty and euphemism,the difference points are positive and negative tendencies,objectivity and subjectivity of speculative reasoning and emotional.The third chapter describes the syntactic distribution and collocation of trisyllabic probable modal adverbs form the syntactic level.Among them,the collocation and use of them with auxiliary verbs,modal words,modal adverbs and interrogative pronouns are emphatically investigated.The four chapter summarizes the sentence type selection,expression and discourse function of trisyllabic probable modal adverbs from the pragmatic level.In terms of sentence type selection,they can only be used in declarative sentences,exclamatory sentences and speculative questions.In the expression function,they have the function of transmitting information,highlighting the focus and interpersonal.In discourse,they have the function of cohesion.Besides "bu yi ding" and "bu jian de",other words also have the function of discourse marker.Finally,this paper summarizes the viewpoints and shortcomings of the research.
