Fairness is a long-term driving force for social development and a goal that people are pursuing unremittingly. In daily life, fairness is usually maintained by a second party or a third party. As a bystander who has nothing to do with the incident, the third party is more common and stable in maintaining fairness. In the face of unfairness,a third party can compensate the victim or choose to punish the offender, both of which are typical third-party altruistic behaviors. In addition, third parties can also choose to be silent.Third-party altruistic behaviors are costly and reduce the adaptability of the actors, which contradicts the common altruistic behaviors in life. Therefore, this study explores the reputation of third-party altruists and their advantages in social selection through three experiments.Experiment 1 took 99 college students as subjects to examine the influence of different third-party behaviors on the reputation evaluation of others.A single-factor three-level inter-subject experiment design is adopted, and the dependent variable is the subject's reputation evaluation of the third party. The research results show that the reputation of the third-party compensator is significantly higher than that of the punisher and the silent, and the reputation of the punisher is also significantly higher than that of the silent.Experiment 2 took 60 college students as subjects to explore the influence of third-party behavior and third-party social status on reputation evaluation.A mixed experimental design of 3(third-party behavior: compensation,punishment,silence)×2(social status: high, low)was adopted, and the dependent variable was the participant's evaluation of the third party's enthusiasm and ability. It turns out that when the third party has a high social status, the results are the same as the findings of Experiment 1;when the third party has a low social status, only the third-party compensator's enthusiasm and ability score is higher than the punisher and the silent, and the penalty There is no significant difference between the silent person and the silent person.Experiment 3 took 55 college students as subjects to further explore whether the influence of third-party behavior and social status on other people's attitudes extends to behavior, that is,social selection.A mixed experimental design of 3(third-party behavior: compensation, punishment, silence)× 2(social status: high, low)is adopted, and the dependent variables are the participants' and the third party's willingness to play together, leadership choice willingness, teammate choice and leadership choice The actual choice in.The results found that not only the participants and the third-party compensator were significantly higher than the other two actors in their common game willingness, but also found that regardless of the social status of the third party, the participants tended to choose the third-party compensator as their teammates. At the same time, consistent results were found in the leadership choice willingness and leadership choice.Research has confirmed that third-party behavior and social status interact with each other's reputation and social selection of others.Compensators have more advantages in teammate selection and leadership choice, showing consistency across roles.
