Subjective social status (SSS) is the position which individuals are aware of the status they are in through compared with the others in their society. And SSS is the subjective perception and judgment, which measured the relative status in the society as a whole. And it is different from the SES(social economic status), which is only measure objective status. In Evolutionary psychology, many researches have already approved that social status is a important factor in mate section, as it is a important index which can help women to choose an excellent mate, and also it’s the resource for men to attract more women. But there is no study about whether the objective or the subjective social status influences on the process of mate selection, or what is the relation between the objective and the subjective. So This research hypotheses that there is a positive correlation between the subjective social status and mate selection, and the subjective social status is the intermediary variable in the mate selection model.The research included:(1)Making the questionnaire of undergraduate long-term mate section and short-term mate section;(2)Study about the present situation of Chinese college students mate selection with self-made questionnaire of college students’long-term mate selection and short-term selection;(3)With The SSS index system of College students studied about the present situation of Chinese College students;(4)Find out the change of mate-section by improving or lowing the individual position of status hierarchy to explore the influence of SSS on mate section.;(5) Explore the role of SSS played between SES and mate selection.The results indicated:(1)The questionnaire of college students’ long-term mate selection and short-term selection is in accordance with the requirements of psychometric has good reliability and validity.(2)College students’criterion of long-term mate selection is constituted by four dimensions:economic status, housekeeping ability, character and appearance; and College students’ criterion of short-term mate selection is constituted by three dimensions:economic status,character and appearance.(3)There are significant differences in urban-and-rural, economic area and only-child-or-not on SSS, but no significant differences in gender.(4)In the long-term mate selection, unless the dimension of appearance, the other dimensions were significant difference in gender; all dimensions were significant difference in economic area; and the economic status and appearance dimensions are significant difference in urban-and-rural.(5)In the short-term mate selection, all dimensions were significant difference in gender and economic area; appearance is significant difference in urban-and-rural; character is significant difference in only-child-or-not.(6) The SSS is the intermediary variable in the mate selection model.
