Since the rise of China's national strength in the 21 st century, the influence of Chinese culture on a global scale has also increased. The Sinology community in the United States has transitioned from a simple translation introduction to a specialized research field, and has put forward a set of valuable views. It also provides some useful research methods. In particular, the involvement of local Chinese students and scholars in the past decade or so has given an unprecedented increase in the depth and breadth of the spread and research of Chinese classical literature in the United States. On the other hand,China is also encouraged by the new academic trends brought about by the introduction of overseas sinology.Academic discussions, academic transformations, and the appeal of rewriting the literary history have soared.Under such international background and academic environment, the author attempts to use the three series of textbooks of How to Read Chinese Poetry edited by Cai Zong-qi,a professor of the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures of the University of Illinois,USA.as the specific research object.Through the textbook, this thesis attempts to review the current status of the study of Chinese classical poetry abroad, and to sort out the cultural and academic background of the main scholars currently engaged in the cross-border communication of Chinese classical poetry;meanwhile to analyze the sources of the main theories and methods of current scholars studying Chinese classical poetry and the overall development trend of this field.Taking specific Chinese and foreign textbooks as comparison objects, this thesis comparatively analyzes the three series of Chinese and foreign classical literature textbooks, breaking through the traditional thinking of classical poetry appreciation, reinterpreting Chinese classical poetry classics. Finally,it explores the interaction between Chinese classical poetry influenced by western literary theories and Chinese native literature traditions in cross-border communications, and explores its Originality and Unoriginality connections. This thesis altogether four chapters, plus the introduction and the conclusion, altogether has four parts. The details are as follows:First, the introduction. This section includes the historical background of the study of Chinese classical poetry cross-border communication in European and American Sinology, the research of Chinese classical poetry cross-border communication at home and abroad, and the practical and theoretical significance of this thesis. The first chapter analyzes the academic background of the series of textbooks on How to Read Chinese Poetry. It is a brief overview of the writing of Chinese literature history textbooks in Europe and America, and introduces the academic background of the editors of the How to Read Chinese Poetry series of textbooks, especially the editor-in-chief.From the editor-in-chief's academic perspective and teaching practice, this thesis analyzes the reasons for the compilation of the series of textbooks on How to Read Chinese Poetry. The second, third and fourth chapters are the main body of this paper, whose contents mainly include a brief overview of the contents of the series of textbooks on How to Read Chinese Poetry, the originality and Unoriginality representation of the series of textbooks on How to Read Chinese Poetry, and the similarities and differences of the textbooks of Chinese and foreign literature history. The second chapter uses the method of intensive reading to refine the unique writing features in the series of textbooks of How to Read Chinese Poetry and makes a brief evaluation. The third chapter uses the parallel method of textual reading and theoretical research to explore in depth the originality and importation contained in the four topics of How to Read Chinese Poetry, namely, the subject matter, style classification, formal rhythm teaching and cultural context. The fourth chapter through the comparison of similarities and differences between Chinese and foreign literature history textbooks, uses the methods of impact research and parallel research to explore how the How to Read Chinese Poetry series of textbooks inherit and carry forward the academic ideas in textbooks of Chinese and foreign literature history. The conclusion of the thesis summarizes the whole paper and explores the interaction between Chinese classical poetry influenced by western literary theories and the influence of Chinese native literature tradition in cross-border communication.
