Classical poetry is one of the most meaningful and transformable language forms of Chinese. It carriesrich and profound cultural information, and has dual nature of culture and language. It is an indispensableteaching content in teaching Chinese as a foreign language. Teaching the ancient poetry is a better way tospread Chinese culture. It has key importance to strengthen. the understanding of Chinese language andculture by learning poetry.In the preface of this thesis we discuss the research background and purposes, the status of research,and make a summary about the current research results. In the process of the research we discovered theproblems and defects of this topic, and finally found the writing ideas. In the thesis, we first discuss theteaching ideas of the poetry as cultural content in TCFL, locate this course, point out the teaching object,and on the basis of relevance theory put forward some suggestions on teaching methods. Then in thesecond part, we define the courses’ contents, points out the key teaching points in poetry teaching in TCFL,and proposes several typical Chinese cultural traits. In the third part, we focus on introducing the basis forthe choice of courses, put forward several selecting advices for specific cases. The fourth part is thekeystone of this paper, we separately select six poetry which are divided into four classes: culture class,Nostalgic class, Life comprehension class, Philosophy class, we use a variety of teaching methods, applysome modern teaching methods and make specific teaching design in order to facilitate the smooth progressof cross-cultural communication.According to this paper, by analyzing the research background and status, we determine the teachingcontents, point out the key teaching points, give some suggestions on teaching methods, and put forwardspecific teaching design in operation with the purpose of accelerating the leaner’s’ mastery of Chineseclassical poetry.
