Having a strong ability to cope with workplace changes is an important accomplishment for employees to adapt to the new normal of change and dynamic workplace. Therefore, how to improve employees' adaptive performance is very important for both individuals and enterprises.Studies have shown that the driving force of employees' work is the key factor to improve the adaptive performance. As a continuous driving force for career pursuit, calling would change employees' work behavior from passive to active, and encourage employees to make continuous efforts for the common goal.Although previous studies have shown that calling had a positive impact on work attitude and behavior, the role of calling on adaptive performance and its influence mechanism were still unclear. Therefore, exploring the impact of the positive variable of calling on employees' adaptive performance can provide theoretical support for employees and organizations to improve their adaptive performance, and has practical significance in terms of encouraging the development of the organization.Based on self-determination theory, this study discussed the impact of calling on employees' adaptive performance, the mediating role of job crafting and the moderating effect of perceived organizational support. The study was divided into two parts. In study 1,308 valid questionnaires were obtained from employees through the questionnaire survey. In study 2,we used the interview to get the most direct information from 10 employees, and the interview data were analyzed by Nvivo software. The results showed that:(1)Calling had a significant positive impact on adaptive performance.(2)Job crafting played a partial mediating role between between calling and adaptive performance.(3)Perceived organizational support had a significant positive moderating effect on the relationship of calling and job crafting. That is,the higher the perceived organizational support, the stronger the positive predictive effect of calling on job crafting.(4)Perceived organizational support had a significant positive moderating effect on the mediating effect of calling on adaptive performance through job crafting, which moderated the first half of the mediating effect. In other words, the high perceived organizational support enhanced the calling on adaptive performance through job crafting. The research results verified some theoretical assumptions and explained the formation mechanism of calling and adaptive performance to a certain extent, confirmed the internal and external positive factors to improve adaptive performance and provided some empirical research evidence for improving the practice of adaptive performance management.
