John C.H.Wu,the greatest jurist of China in the 20 th century. His outstanding achievements in the field of law are enough to make us admire and amaze the West.Throughout his academic thought,it is not difficult to find that his natural law thought is the accumulation of his legal philosophy thought all his life. This paper will take John C.H.Wu's natural law thought as the research object, and analyze the formation process of his natural law thought with the integration of Chinese and western legal thoughts as the key line.As a Chinese jurist who is well versed in both China and west,John C.H.Wu's thought, the product of the combination of China and the west has both the elements of Chinese traditional legal culture and the characteristics of western legal thought.John C.H.Wu,who is in the channel of the integration of China and the west, has produced his own unique system in the process of the collision of Chinese and western legal cultures. This article will analyze John C.H.Wu's thought of natural law from four aspects.First of all,the first chapter gives a brief overview of John C.H.Wu's life and academic experience, and then explores his relationship with traditional Chinese culture,as well as the study of traditional Chinese culture and thought, and conducts an in-depth study of traditional Chinese Confucianism,Buddhism and Taoism. The second part of the article tells John C.H.Wu's exploration of western legalists and legal thoughts during his studies in the West.At first,John C.H.Wu was keen on the legal thoughts of Holmes and Stammler, and based on the fusion of the two,he founded the law three-dimensional theory, paying more attention to pragmatism. After his conversion to Catholicism,he regained his enthusiasm for natural law thinking, and gained a deeper understanding of natural law based on the theological natural law of Thomas Aquinas. The third part is a summary of the main content of John C.H.Wu's natural law thought formed in the exchange of ideas between China and the West.In the fusion of Western natural law and traditional Chinese culture,John C.H.Wu's found a method of understanding natural law,and found traces of natural law in traditional Chinese theories, and then proposed the core theory of“natural law in evolution”,realizing the pursuit of justice and beauty. The last part of the article is to summarize the general characteristics of John C.H.Wu's natural law and try to find reference to the construction of modern legal system from his ideological achievements. On the one hand, religious belief runs through John C.H.Wu's natural law thoughts, and Confucian ethical principles are also his thoughts basis. On the other hand,Christian culture and traditional Chinese culture have also become the foundation of his natural law thoughts. And his fusion and transcendence of Eastern and Western thought was finally realized in natural law thought.John C.H.Wu's uses the eternal and unchanging truth of natural law to achieve the integration and penetration of China and the West, which has become the biggest feature of his legal thought. Therefore,in the construction of modern legal system, people have to pay attention to the Chinese legal culture itself, learn and absorb the essence of Western law,and try to integrate the two to act together in the process of legal modernization.
