Since the 21 st century, the development of German populism has threatened German political stability and aggravated social opposition and division. Its manifestations of the proliferation of populism are multifaceted, including the ascendant populist movement in eastern Germany, the persistence of populist politics under the refugee crisis, the public health crisis igniting populist sentiment, and the sudden emergence of populist political parties.Since the 21 st century in Germany, the populism has new characteristics: the populist party echoes the populist movement; The left and the right are intertwined and the radical extremism. At the same time, for populism in the new century,Internet social media have intensified the populism of the people. However,Germany's populist phenomenon has limited political space in Germany due to the political dilemma of “breaking but not standing” for Alternative for Germany and the extreme radicality and lack of compromise spirit of the populist movement. It is inconsistent with the spirit of the times and is unfavorable for solving problems.Obviously, populism also tests the self-correction ability of Western liberal democracy. It reflects the challenges to traditional values and governance methods. Therefore,it is urgent to improve social governance methods and pay attention to the psychological trauma caused by the epidemic. Therefore,German can handle the current populist problems caused by unfairness and identity recognition.
