During the Cold War,the unification policy of the Federal Republic of Germany was characterized by distinct stages, which was basically a micro interpretation of the macroscopic process of the Cold War.Germany was the origin of the two world wars and a defeated country,it was also the main front position of the post-war split country and the confrontation between the two military blocs of the United States and the Soviet Union. After the war,Germany’s sovereignty suffered serious damage, the national territory was divided into two parts, the two Germanies became a buffer zone of the balance of power strategy under the bipolar pattern, and the Federal Republic of Germany, one of the two Germanies, also suffered from weak comprehensive national strength and sharp decline in international influence. However, the Federal Republic of Germany was able to overcome all difficulties, accurately grasp the chance of the end of the Cold War,and achieved the peaceful reunification of the country without any bloodshed, which was inseparable from the unremitting efforts and diplomatic wisdom of all the leaders of the Federal Republic of Germany during the Cold War.The unity of the Federal Republic of Germany during the Cold War can be divided into four stages, each period has its own characteristics, they also made progress in the process of German reunification. After World War II,the causes and changes of the reunification policy of the Federal German Government were determined by both domestic and foreign factors. The polarity of tension and relaxation during the cold war forced the country’s unified policy to change with the times. In general, the unification policies of successive governments of Federal Germany during the Cold War were both principle rooted in the idea of "One Germany" and flexible and compromise keeping pace with The Times, and they always realized national reunification by peaceful means such as economic trade and cultural exchanges. The study of the Cold War cannot avoid Germany, and the relationship between the two countries can be regarded as the barometer of the relations between the East and the West during the Cold War.The discussion of the German issue is conducive to grasping the development of the international pattern of the Cold War,and also to summarizing the experience of realizing national reunification in contemporary China.Reunification is the highest cause and core interest of a nation.Through the study of the reunification policy of the Federal Republic of Germany during the Cold War,we can find that Germany’s reunification lies in its control of the current situation and its insistence on the principle of "One Germany".
