This article mainly studies the public sphere in Hannah Arendt’s political philosophy. With the public sphere as the core, the problem focuses on finding a solution to modern political dilemmas from Arendt’s public sphere thought.Based on this, the core task of this article is to explain the essence of the public sphere in Arendt’s thought through systematically analyzing Arendt’s public sphere theory, and to analyze the relationship between Arendt’s political actions and political opinions and the public sphere based on understanding the causes of the decline of public sphere in modern society.Use this as a starting point to explore possible paths for public sphere reconstruction.Arendt’s public sphere thought reflects the dilemma and requirements of the times. It is a response to the problems and crises of modernization, such as the horror of totalitarianism, the rise of the social realm and the alienation of the world. From the perspective of classical republicanism, she tried to rebuild the public sphere, the field that bears true political life to resist the swallowing of the social realm, thereby saving the diversity of people and regaining the meaning of active life.Arendt called for attention to the importance of the public sphere and actively reshapes the political spirit.Although her public sphere theory is too vague and difficult to achieve due to its limitations,it shows her unique political perspective and highlights the importance of a public space where people can speak and act freely and realize self-expression.This thesis consists of four parts. In the first part of the dissertation,I studied Arendt’s understanding of the nature of the public sphere.First,I clarified the concepts of Arendt’s public sphere theory. Then,in view of Arendt’s idea of public sphere, which was corresponding to the three activities of human beings,it led to Arendt’s Lent’s three-point academic construction thus summarized the characteristics of the public sphere. The second part of the thesis analyzed the performance and causes of the decline of the public sphere in modern times, including the rise of totalitarianism and atomized individuals, the rise of the social sphere and the alienation of the world. As Arendt tried to reconstruct the public domain in the context of the crisis of modernity,in the third part of the thesis,I tried to dig out the path of rebuilding the public sphere from Arendt’s thoughts.Through my research,I believe that the crisis of the public sphere required action and spiritual salvation.Promoting the integration of action and judgment requires,on the one hand, the effectiveness of political actions and opinions needs to be ensured, and on the other hand, the active political participation of citizens is also required. In the fourth part of the thesis,I reflect on Arendt’s public sphere thought.Arendt’s thought still have academic value and practical significance in contemporary times. Its value orientations, such as freedom and equality, public rationality, and negotiated democracy, still have reference significance. And her thought has also made important contributions to deepening the criticism of violence and understanding the contemporary social networked public domain. But at the same time, the limitations of her thoughts cannot be ignored. It is mainly reflected in the absolute division of the public sphere and the denial of social and economic factors in an attempt to build pure politics. But the fact is that all this is unimaginable for modern society. All kinds of limitations are destined that Arendt’s political ideal can only be a utopia. In the process of researching,I hold the view that Arendt’s public sphere thought carried a profound theoretical connotation, which is prominently manifested in: highlighting the spirit of freedom and providing a remedy for the political dilemma of modernity.Arendt strived to highlight the importance of politics, expressing that people should have independent and free political life in the public realm that can reflect human nature. She intended to evoke people’s awareness of political action and free expression, and firmly believed that people should have a public space-the existence of the public sphere, the pursuit of the return of the ultimate spiritual homeland of man.At the same time, this article is instructive for understanding the inherent relationship between Western political tradition and modern political crisis.
