The technological innovation ability of an enterprise plays a vital role in its own development,and the innovation resources are the key and foundation of enterprise innovation.Due to the lack and limitation of enterprise resources,enterprise innovation cannot be separated from the close cooperation and resource integration with external stakeholders such as the government,universities and research institutions.As one of the ways for enterprises to build a relationship network with the outside world,charitable donation helps enterprises accumulate social capital and exchange strategic resources needed for their own development from the outside.Does the act of charitable donation benefit the enterprise to obtain external innovation resources,so as to promote the output of scientific and technological achievements?There is a lack of discussion about this in academic circles.On the basis of resource dependence theory and social network theory,this paper empirically tested the relationship between charitable donation and enterprise innovation output by using the data of A-share listed companies in Shanghai and Shenzhen from 2010 to 2017,and found that charitable donation is beneficial to enterprise innovation output.According to the situation of the establishment of charitable foundations by enterprises,the influence of charitable donations on innovation performance under different donation channels was tested,and the research found that donations from corporate without charitable foundation had a more obvious promoting effect on innovation performance than corporate foundation donations.To explore whether the enterprise through the strategic giving way to establish contact with universities,research institutions,in exchange for innovation resources,the article tested the school-enterprise association,geography position adjustment between charitable donation and innovation performance,found the association between colleges and the geographical position is positively regulate the relationship between them.The research of this paper verifies the positive impact of charitable donation on innovation performance and provides empirical evidence.Secondly,the connotation of strategic charitable donation is enriched and supplemented,which is conducive to a better understanding of the behavioral motivation of corporate charitable donation.Finally,the conclusion of this paper finds a new path for the role of charitable donation in innovation performance,verifies that charitable donation has become one of the important means for enterprises to establish and maintain cooperative relations with universities and other scientific research institutions,and further opens the black box between charitable donation and enterprise innovation.
