Since the 1966 ILO/UNESCO recommendation on the status of teachers, the study of teacher status has become a hot research field, which shows that high teacher status contributes to the improvement of students' performanceand the quality of education. As a result, many countries and regions have taken the promotion of teachers into consideration in their education policies,Australia is included. This study examines the background, policy measures and effects achieved by Australia in promoting the teaching status of primary and secondary school in the 21 st century through literature research, and try to analyze the reasons for the effect. With a view to providing information for public discussion and understanding of policies and practices. In the 1990 s,primary and secondary school teachers in Australia experienced a stage of oversupply and relative balance. The demand for teachers began to change from the number of teachers to the quality of teachers. At this time,Australia has no national teacher professional system, teacher quality is uneven, and there is an increasing demand for attention to the quality of teachers.Australia published a report on the status of teachers in 1998,which raised concerns and concerns about the status of teachers.Since the 21 st century,Australia has continuously promoted the professionalization of teachers through the promulgation of national professional standards for teachers, certification of initial teacher education programs, and the universal implementation of teacher registration and certification based on professional standards, with a view to enhancing the status of teachers by strengthening their quality and ability;Reform the salary system in terms of economic status and implement the Advanced Skills Teacher and the Quality Teacher Program plan with a view to improving teachers' salary treatment;in addition, through various forms of recognition of outstanding teachers, improve teachers' social prestige and other measures to enhance the status of teachers. This study considers theeffect of lifting the teaching status through attractiveness of teachers in primary and Secondary schools and the views of teachers and the teaching profession. In general, the effect of improving the status of teachers is not obvious, mainly manifested inthe initial teacher education is facing the enrollment dilemma;the attrition of teachers in primary and secondary schools is becoming moreand more serious;and society's views on teachers and the teaching professions are not optimistic. The study found that there are three reasons that affect the lift of the teaching status in Australia.Firstly, there are contradictions and conflicts between professional standards and the out-of-field teaching;secondly, there is a mismatch between teacher input and reward;thirdly, the negative media reports have affected the teachers' social image. The existence of these problems directly affects the promotion of the status of teachers in primary and secondary schools in Australia, and even leads to a decline in the professional appeal of teachers. Therefore, students with excellent academic performance are reluctant to use teachers as occupations, initial teacher education cannot recruit excellent high school graduates. As a result, the quality of initial teacher education is affected, and finally the bitter fruits are fed back to schools and society, forming a bad cycle, which becomes a gully that hinders Australia's pursuit of educational excellence. The teacher profession must become a profession that can attract and retain the best talents, and paying attention to and improving the teaching status in primary and secondary school has become an important part of Australia's progress towards excellence education.Incentive measures must be taken to attract more academically successful people to become teachers and maintain the status of teachers as knowledge workers.Only by building a broader atmosphere of respecting teachers and valuing education can the status of primary and middle school teachers be fundamentally improved.Australia still has a long way to go to do this.Australia has a long way to go to lift teaching status.
