Although the period of the Republic of China is short in Chinese history,it is an important period for China to transition to modernization.Textbooks,especially the history textbooks of middle schools,as an important carrier to reflect the historical education and its development in this period,are an epitome of the development and changes in this period.Therefore,this paper takes the compilation of middle school history textbooks during the period of 1912 to 1928 as the research object,analyzes the changing characteristics of the content and style of the compilation of middle school history textbooks in different stages,and concludes the characteristics and laws of the compilation of middle school history textbooks during this period from the single development,to the modernization to the maturity.The paper is divided into four parts: the first part discusses the basic background of the compilation of history textbooks in middle schools in the Republic of China,and discusses the content setting and structural characteristics of the history curriculum in middle schools before the establishment of the Republic of China.The second part studies the characteristics of the compilation of the history textbooks of middle schools from the establishment of the Republic of China to the period of renxu(1912-1922),analyzes the content setting of the history curriculum of middle schools in this period,and summarizes the content and style characteristics of the compilation of the history textbooks of middle schools in this period.The third part studies the maturity of the compilation of history textbooks in middle schools after the renxu school system(1922-1928),discusses the content setting of history courses in middle schools after the renxu school system,and summarizes the compilation content and style characteristics of the history textbooks in middle schools after the renxu school system.The fourth part evaluates the compilation of history textbooks in middle schools from 1912 to 1928 in the early Republic of China,analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of the compilation of history textbooks in this period,and provides reference value for the compilation of history textbooks in middle schools in the future.In the early years of the Republic of China,the compilation of middle school history textbooks(1912-1928),from the establishment of the Republic of China to 1928 more than 10 years,due to the impact of frequent adjustments to the school system,the content and style of the compilation has been constantly enriched,and the characteristics of the compilation have also shown a single development,gradually towards modernization to maturity.The compilation of history textbooks in this period has its shortcomings,but it also provides reference and historical experience for the development of history textbooks in middle schools.
