The reason why Chinese senior high school students have difficulty in understanding ancient Chinese poetry is that they don?t understand the contextual meaning of words and fail to figure out key words or relation between sentences or the structure of the poetry.Based on previous research results of peers,this paper aims to solve the difficulties in teaching in line with current curriculum standards,thus providing references for teaching of ancient Chinese poetry in the future.Three problems proposed to be solved in the paper: a).What are the criteria for senior high school students to understand ancient Chinese poetry;b).What cultural literacy is required to understand ancient Chinese poetry,and what are the requirements for senior high school students;c).How to cultivate senior high school students? ability to undersdand ancient Chinese poetry.The paper is composed of five parts.The first part is an introduction which provides descriptions of background information of the research,makes a summary from elements of ancient Chinese poetry,teaching material for senior high school students about poetry and cultivation of senior high school students? ability to understand poetry.The second part is the survey of the status quo of senior high school students? understanding of ancient poetry: a survey of students at different grades is made according to teaching-learning feedback,so as to know the main and specific reasons hindering students? understanding of ancient poetry.The third part provides the key elements that a student should know to understand ancient Chinese poetry and the understanding criteria;teaching elements and criteria for students to understand poetry are defined after reference to the materials concerned.The fourth part defines the ability that senior high school students should have to understand ancient Chinese poetry after making a comparison of the requirements for primary school students,junior high school students and senior high school students in understanding ancient Chinese poetry.The fifth part builds the method framework for the cultivation of senior high school students? ability to "understand ancient poetry",i.e.procedural knowledge and strategic knowledge according to the teaching cases of famous teachers and the author.
