Judgment of learning(JOL)is a commonly used form of metamemory monitoring, which refers to the possibility that individuals evaluate what they have learned to be successfully retrieved in future tests, which occurs between coding and retrieval(Tekin &Roediger,2020).JOL has recently been shown to have reactive effects on learning.JOL reactivity refers to that making JOL while studying material influences later memory for that material. In this study, the classical study paradigm of JOL was adopted, taking high school students as the research object and the no-JOL group as the control group.Through two experiments,JOL reactivity and the nature of reactivity were explored, and the differences of JOL reactivity between overachievers and underachievers were investigated.Experiment 1used standard JOL to investigate the reactivity of different word pairs and different types of students.Experiment 2,Yes-No JOL was used to investigate the reactivity of JOL.The results showed that the underachievers showed negative reactivity under the standard JOL condition and the unrelated word pairs of Yes-no JOL condition, but No reactivity under the related word pairs of Yes-no JOL condition. In the standard JOL condition, the overachievers showed negative reactivity in the unrelated word pairs, but No reactivity in the related word pairs, while in the Yes-no JOL condition, positive reactivity appeared in both the relevant and the unrelated word pairs. The conclusions are as follows:(1)JOL affect subsequent memory performance, resulting in JOL reactivity. The nature of reactivity is related to primary/secondary tasks and the individual's cognitive resources.(2)There are differences in JOL reactivity between overachievers and underachievers. It shows different nature in different cognitive resource cost tasks.(3)The JOL reactivity supports the dual-mechanism account that positive and negative responses arise from two different mechanisms.Associative strength and individual available cognitive resources affect JOL reactivity.
