The development of curriculum and assessment in British Columbia is an ongoing process that is influenced by trends in global educational research.Based on the analysis of social studies curriculum cases, this study focuses on the goals, principles and important measures of curriculum reform with the theme of "Redesigned Curriculum Research in British Columbia,Canada".This study mainly adopts literature analysis and case study method.Literature sources include official websites,Chinese and foreign databases, etc.Cases are taken from social studies courses on the British Columbia Curriculum website and the official website of the Teachers' Federation. This study attempts to answer three questions about curriculum reform in British Columbia and to give suggestions for education and curriculum in our country. The first question is "What is the goal of British Columbia's curriculum reform?" The second chapter of this paper uses literature analysis to study the goals and principles of the curriculum reform in British Columbia. It is found that the curriculum reform in British Columbia has a clear reform orientation centered on students' needs and oriented towards core competences. The goal of the curriculum reform is to prepare students to become well-educated citizens,to help students achieve academic success, and to promote personalized learning. The principles of the curriculum reform are core competences oriented and student needs-centric,while taking into account situations involving equity, such as those of special students and First Nations. The second question is "What is the definition of core competence in British Columbia?" The first section of the third chapter makes a detailed analysis of the definition of core competences in the curriculum reform by literature analysis. It is found that one of the important measures of this curriculum reform is to publish a complete core competences framework and formulate the profiles of each core competence. The third question is "What are the important initiatives in curriculum reform in British Columbia? How does it develop in terms of course content, teaching design and implementation, and evaluation? What are its features? Does it demonstrate corecompetences?" In the third and fourth chapters of this paper, literature analysis method and case study method are respectively used to solve this problem. It is found that the curriculum reform not only promulgated the core competence framework, but also redesigned the new curriculum content and determined curriculum implementation model based on the concept and orientation competences, and encourages teachers to develop the classroom evaluation method based on the core competence. The third chapter analyzes how the reform orientation is reflected in various reform measures through literature analysis. The fourth chapter deeply analyzes the measures and orientation of curriculum reform by selecting representative social studies education as cases through case study method. As a multi-field discipline, social studies education is very important for cultivating students' competences. Therefore, this study hopes to find out how the curriculum reform integrates its objectives and principles into all aspects of curriculum reform with the help of cases of social studies education. The study suggests that there are many experiences worth learning from although there are still problems in the curriculum reform in British Columbia. For example, teachers are encouraged to design teaching independently according to students' interests develop evaluation models suitable for students.Curriculum reforms should draw on the world's educational concepts, establish a curriculum reform goal that keeps pace with the times. We can encourage teachers to independently design learning activities and corresponding evaluation centered on the needs of students, and develop the core competences that students need to have in the 21 st century.
