In recent years,social media has attracted the attention of netizens,and gradually become an important platform for the occurrence and development of public opinion hot events.The extensive participation of social media users,the selective contact mechanism and the fission cascade communication aggravate the formation of group polarization phenomenon,which brings great hidden danger to the network public opinion environment and even social stability in China.My research hopes to analyze the different factors that affect the phenomenon of group polarization,explore how they interact with each other,and finally induce the formation of the phenomenon of group polarization,so as to summarize the formation mechanism of the phenomenon of social media group polarization,and intervene according to the key factors to avoid the negative effects of group polarization.Based on the above research purposes,my research uses qualitative comparative analysis method,takes 20 cases of group polarization events on social media from 2016 to 2020 as sample cases,and based on the literature research on group polarization issues in different disciplines such as journalism and communication,politics,sociology,psychology and so on,determines eight key factors(explanatory variables)that affect the formation of group polarization It includes four variables of " content ","referent","appeal" and "attitude" under the event attribute,as well as four communication attribute variables of "source","information ","leader" and "media".After assigning values to variables,this research makes coding analysis on 20 cases,and obtains the optimal combination of interpretation conditions under the joint action of event attribute,propagation attribute and dual attribute through QCA operation.On this basis,my research reviews the research process and summarizes the formation mechanism of social media group polarization from the perspective of event attribute,communication attribute and dual attribute comprehensive analysis.It is found that the explanatory effect of event attribute is stronger than that of communication attribute,and that "event points to political figures" has a strong force to trigger group polarization;the information released by traditional media and we media is more likely to cause group polarization,"information" and "leader" are the necessary combination of communication elements for the occurrence of group polarization;at the same time,under the dual attribute analysis,we can see that "content","referent"," attitude","source","information " and "leader" are the important factors for the occurrence of group polarization "information " and "leader" are also the key factors for the formation and serious consequences of group polarization.In contrast,the explanatory power of "appeal" and "media" is relatively weak,and they are usually attached to the other six influencing factors,combined with each other,and ultimately induce the formation of group polarization.Finally,based on the formation mechanism of group polarization phenomenon,my research puts forward some suggestions to avoid the negative effects of group polarization from three aspects: grasping the characteristics of typical events,improving the monitoring and early warning mechanism;making effective response to political events at the first time;paying attention to the influence of opinion leaders and guiding them to play a positive role.
