Mobilization Mechanism,Media Participation And Environmental Protests

The frequent occurrence of environmental protests has been an important feature in our society,and has attracted the attention of academia.The study of environmental protests can help alleviate environmental problems in a certain way,protect peoples'interests,maintain social stability,to improve the coordination between the people and the government.Based on the data of 32 environmental protest cases,this paper focuses on the "mobilization mechanism" and "media participation" of the protests from the environmental protest results,and explores the key factors and important conditions for the results of the environmental resistance by using the clear set qualitative comparative analysis method.In this paper,based on the construction of qualitative comparative analysis model,the environmental protest results are interpreted variables.On the basis of relevant research theories and previous research experience,the potential explanatory variables of "mobilization mechanism" and "media participation" are selected,and the actual value table is constructed by using TOSMANA software.The conditional combination and corresponding explanatory power of the resistance result of the environment are obtained through Boolean minimization,and the key variables and main conditions of the environmental resistance of are summarized.The research shows that in the combination of "mobilization mechanism" and"media participation",in the condition combination that affects the outcome of the protests,if the protesters are led by the interest demands,if there is no environmental protection organization to intervene,large-scale violent protests are adopted,and the environmental protests are more likely to succeed.If the fighters use a media mobilization,a multi-modal form of mobilization,and a national and local network,it's more likely to be successful.Among them,there are the basic features of the successful environmental protests:with the interest demands as the orientation,the scale of the protests,the low level of organization,the violence of protests,the participation and use of media mobilization by environmental organizations,the adoption of multi-modal communication network mobilization,and the high attention of the new media.This shows that in the field of environmental protest,there is a lack of non-governmental organization function in China,low degree of citizen participation,and low degree of social development of civil society.However,media participation,especially the new media dominated by Internet,has obvious role in the struggle.At the same time,the government's dominant public interaction determines the success of the environment.Therefore,it is good to improve the function of non-governmental organizations,to improve citizen participation,to value the function of media participation,to contribute to the development of our civil society,and to promote the healthy interaction of the government and civil society.These can help the environment protests to achieve a win-win result.
