Identity And Its Social Formation Mechanism

New generation migrant workers who have experienced urban non-agricultural occupation mobility become main part of rural migrant population.But they are hard to become citizens,even have identity dilemma of low social class.Therefore,the study of their identity and its social formation mechanism is necessary.The study intends to present how new generation migrant workers in different industries and job interact with specific social structure and institutional factors in urban public space,workplace,and living space.The study explore social formation mechanism from employment quality,social security,social interaction,space field and psychological formation mechanism.The study adopts deep case interview of qualitative research,which try change the past static study.According to the sample availability,the study uses snowball method and interviews 105 cases.The study found that because modernity and household registration system conflict,new generation migrant workers's identity is multivariate,fuzzy,fragmented and hard to coordinate.It makes their feeling of social trust,security,fairness,trust,and satisfaction lower,which affects their experience and brings risk to the society.New generation migrant workers have the same roles,but self-identity is different,such as U,J,O and L shaped process.In the process,employment quality,social security,social interaction and space field very important.These four dimensions and identity of psychological generative mechanism work together in it.Under this social formation mechanism,integration of urban public space,living space and work space will help the improvement of their identity.In addition,we can increase employment quality,make social security fair,balance social interaction and open space field,expand new generation migrant workers legal citizenship,improve low identity,and enhance professional identity.It need a bridge that connected the government,our society and the market.By means of improving social security,developing the employment market,making a better living condition,booming the organizations and fighting for citizenship,they can dissolve the risk and achieve complete identity at last.The study is divided into seven chapters:the first chapter introduce the background,researching significance,ideas,methods,literature review.In the second chapter,it describes the identity status,characteristics of new generation migrant workers and social risk.Four types of identity are generalized:think themselves as workers,think themselves as peasants,and deny themselves as peasants,identity are confused.The third chapter analyzie employment quality and its impact on the identity.Considering social,individual factors and the subjective experience,the lower employment quality affects their identity.The forth chapter is concerned with the effect of social security.It analyzes the inequitable distribution of the social security,which doesn't match to the real demand of new generation migrant workers,and then its negative influence on their identity.The fifth chapter emphasizes the social interaction on the maintenance and reinforcement of identity.With the influence of strong and weak ties in the process of city interacts,the new generation of migrant workers is difficult to establish an effective identity.The sixth chapter discusses the effects on identity diffusion brought by the differences of space field.As the conclusion of the seventh chapter,the evolution process of their divided identity,identity formation mechanism and the social risk prevention are discussed,points out the deficiency of this study.
