The implementation of subject core literacy puts forward higher requirements for the quality of subject teachers.In 2012,China published three documents of“professional standards for teachers(Trial)” in kindergartens,primary schools and middle schools,but all of them are universal versions,lacking subject attributes.China's professional standards and evaluation system for teachers is facing the crisis of“missing paradigm” as Shulman said.It needs further change.The National Council for professional teaching standards(NBPTS),established in 1987,developed the first professional standard system for accomplished teachers in the world.English language art is one of the earliest disciplines in which NBPTS began to formulate standards and implement certification.Its development and improvement process not only contains the development context of English teaching,but also reflects the change of requirements for subject teachers.The experience of NBPTS has a certain reference value for solving the current problems of teachers' professional standards and evaluation system in China.Through case study,literature study and historical study,this study focuses on the professional standards of NBPTS accomplished English teachers in the United States,aiming to respond to the development of teachers' professional standards in China.Firstly,based on the literature research,this study excavated the knowledge basis behind the professional standards of NBPTS accomplished teachers in the United States.Secondly,by combing the contents and summarizing the characteristics of the three editions,the paper clarified the characteristics and development trend of each edition of NBPTS.Finally,from the experience of NBPTS in the United States,we could draw some enlightenment for the development of China's current teacher professional standards.It is found that the professional standards of NBPTS accomplished English teachers in the United States are constantly improved in the process of “changing and unchanging”,and develop with the development of the times.On the basis of keeping subject as the center of teaching,students as the center of accomplished teachers,they show the following two development trends: the role of accomplished teachers is from guide to partner,the focus of subject teaching is from “fish” to “fishing”.The experience of NBPTS in developing professional standards for accomplished English teachers enlightens us as follows.Firstly,we should divide the subject into different disciplines to highlight the characteristics of the subject.Secondly,we should teach for the sake of learning and carry forward teachers' profession.Finally,but equally important,we should care for the teachers and build the development ladder.
