A Discourse Study On The Broadcast Commentary Of The 18th World Swimming Championships Final By CCTV

Competitive Swimming in the world has a high degree of attention,each international swimming events will attract a large number of viewers,major media coverage,broadcast platform ratings will rise sharply.The 18 th FINA World Aquatics Championships Championships ended on July 28,2019 in Kwangju Korea,after 12 days.The U.S.team won the most medals,broke many world records,and the Chinese team also won many medals,to win tickets to the next games in Tokyo.Such a gathering of many of the world's top level athletes in a large-scale international event,the level of its commentator directly affects the platform's ratings and word of mouth.The purpose of sports commentary is to make the audience better understand the whole sports event and the background information of the athletes outside the event,arouse the audience mood,set off the scene atmosphere,let the audience have a unique watching experience.Up to now,most of the researches on sports commentary are about the development process of sports commentary,the differences and changes between the new media era and the radio era,and the TV era,the style of the commentator,etc..There are few literatures on sports commentary from the perspectives of communication,linguistics and broadcasting,especially those on discourse analysis of swimming commentary.The most representative of the development of sports commentary is a series of studies on systemic functional linguistics represented by M.a.k.Halliday,from the semantic,lexical and grammatical point of view,the text is the object of linguistic study.In the research of sports interpretation,semantic expression is regarded as its key point,and the realization of function is also the most important basis for its existence.Therefore,the author uses Michael Halliday systemic functional linguistics to study the sports commentary,and further excavates the essential characteristics and rules in the swimming commentary.In this paper,42 relay commentaries of indoor swimming in the 2019 swimming World Championships of CCTV are selected as the research object,and the three meta-functions of language are analyzed in detail in combination with video materials and commentary transcriptions,the results are as follows:(1)based on the modal structure,this paper analyzes the relationship between the interpretation and the on-the-spot commentary of the world swimming championships.(2)from the perspective of thematic structure,the change of the subject is analyzed.(3)analyze the use and change of verbs in the process of explanation from the transitivity.Through the author's research,I hope to provide reference and help to the teaching and practice of sports commentary,but there are still many deficiencies in this study,and need to be further improved and supplemented.
