The fundamental task of mathematics education is to cultivate social people with core mathematics literacy.Improving students’ core literacy in mathematics has become a common goal pursued by mathematics education at home and abroad.Symbol awareness is one of the necessary mathematical literacy for students in the compulsory education stage.Paying attention to and developing mathematical symbol awareness can assist students in symbolic communication,promote students to understand the nature of mathematics,and achieve the goal of comprehensively improving students’ core literacy in mathematics.Symbols frequently appear in the process of mathematics learning.It can be said that where there is mathematics,there are symbols.Its function and influence are self-evident.Based on the status of mathematical symbols and the goals of students’ mathematical personality development,this research mainly focuses on the current junior middle school students’ current status of mathematical symbol awareness,the factors that affect junior middle school students’ development of mathematical symbol awareness,and the strategies for cultivating students’ symbol awareness as the starting point.,Taking the three-year students of two junior middle schools as the research object,the current junior middle school students’ sense of mathematical symbols is investigated and researched.Learn more about the status quo of symbol awareness of junior middle school students,and provide a reference for the continued development of symbol awareness.In this research survey,the literature research method,survey method,and case research method are mainly used.Through the analysis and sorting of related literature,combined with the psychological development and cognitive characteristics of junior middle school students,the questionnaire is designed from four aspects.The symbol awareness is divided into four levels,and each level is divided into three levels to design test papers,three grades of students in two schools are surveyed,some teachers and students are interviewed,and then the symbols of junior middle school students are analyzed.The status quo of consciousness and its influencing factors are obtained,and then through the analysis of influencing factors and case studies,the training strategy of symbol consciousness of junior middle school students is proposed.Through data sorting and analysis,the following conclusions are drawn.At this stage,the level of symbol awareness of junior middle school students is at the upper middle level,and there are significant differences between the three grades of junior middle school,and the level of symbol awareness is on the rise with the increase of the grade;schools of different levels There are also significant differences between them,and the differentiation is more serious;there is no significant difference in the level of symbol awareness between male and female junior middle school students,and the average score of boys is slightly higher than that of girls.As the level of abstraction and ability requirements increase,the student’s score rate gradually decreases.According to the status quo and influencing factors of junior middle school students’ mathematics symbol awareness,the strategy for cultivating junior middle school students’ symbol awareness is effectively proposed.This research believes that at the teacher level,symbol awareness needs to be embedded in the classroom,the importance of symbols should be infiltrated into the classroom,and special situations can be used to enhance symbol perception and promote understanding.The connotation of the symbol,strengthen the understanding of the “width” and “thickness” of the symbol,deepen the training of variants in calculation,give full play to the students’ existing knowledge,emphasize the important role of reasoning,and integrate the modeling ideas into the symbol with the help of knowledge-based collaborative reasoning.The abstract process,showing the process of symbolic representation,pays attention to the communication between teachers and students.At the student level,it is necessary to clarify the connotation and essence of symbols,reduce the differences in symbols during construction,strengthen the understanding of abstract symbols,improve computing skills,use mind maps to build knowledge networks,develop reasoning skills at multiple levels,improve symbol conversion capabilities,and strengthen expression standards awareness.
