The consciousness of mathematical symbols focuses on an attitude and ability to consciously and actively understand and use mathematical symbols,which is not only a pure intuitive feeling of symbols.Entering middle school,especially seventh grade students,they will face a more abstract and complex world of mathematical symbols.Therefore,the symbol consciousness becomes the mathematics accomplishment that students expect to achieve in the mathematics course of compulsory education,and it is also the teaching goal that mathematics teaching expects to achieve.Based on the theoretical research,questionnaire design,interviews between teachers and students,and wrong examples,this study analyzes the level of seven grade students in various dimensions of mathematical symbol awareness.At the same time,it classifies and analyzes the causes of students' errors in mathematical symbols,so as to provide the direction for "teaching" of mathematical symbols from the perspective of "learning".The main work and conclusions are as follows:(1)In the perception and recognition of mathematical symbols,the students in grade seven performed poorly as a whole.In the aspect of intuitionistic mathematical symbols,most of the subjects can only recognize the mathematical meaning of algebra,but they seldom recognize the mathematical meaning of geometry.In the aspect of abstract mathematical symbols,most students can't recognize the mathematical meaning by contacting other mathematical symbols.(2)In the understanding and operation dimensions of mathematical symbols,the students in grade seven performed better as a whole.Most of the subjects can understand the mathematical symbols themselves,understand the objects of operation,express the rules of operation accurately,and finally calculate the numerical results correctly.(3)In the dimension of association and inference of mathematical symbols,the students of grade seven in the test performed poorly as a whole.Most of the subjects can use mathematical symbols to express the law between quantity and serial number,but they mainly use a single mathematical expression to describe the reasoning process,so they can't choose the appropriate expression of mathematical symbols according to the specific mathematical problems.In this process,there are some mistakes of mathematical symbols,such as "flashback","retelling","confusion of conjecture and conclusion","confusion of calculation".(4)In the dimension of abstraction and expression of mathematical symbols,the students in grade seven performed better as a whole.Students can not only abstract mathematical problems,judge the generality of the conclusions in the process of mathematical symbolic reasoning,understand the relationship between the special and the general,have clear thinking and complete expression.The problems of the seventh grade students in the study of mathematical symbols are summarized as follows:(1)The number and shape are separated,and the symbols are not well recognized.(2)The writing is not standard and the symbols are easy to be confused(3)The form of mathematical expression is single and lack of symbol carrier consciousness.(4)The ability to translate natural language into symbolic language is weak.(5)It is impossible to judge the applicability of conclusions based on mathematical symbols.Finally,based on the above work,some suggestions are put forward to improve the teaching of mathematical symbols.
