Chinese traditional culture contains much physics knowledge,which is not only a precious cultural heritage,but also a high-quality resource of physics teaching.If we can apply it to middle school physics education,we can teach students to be as cultivate socialist builders and successors with patriotism and cultural self-confidence while improving their Core competence of Physics discipline.Aiming at the question of "how to effectively apply Chinese traditional culture in middle school physics teaching",our research adopts the interdisciplinary method and is based on the cognitive assimilation theory,multicultural integration theory,and physics curriculum standards with consulting and analyzing a large number of relevant documents to explores the significance of applying Chinese traditional culture in middle school physics education.First of all,we conduct a survey on the "Current Status of the Application of Chinese Traditional Culture in Middle School Physics Education" and find that "Most students do not have enough understanding and recognition of the importance of Chinese traditional culture;Physics teachers generally do not have a strong sense of applying Chinese traditional culture".Obviously,it is far from the requirements of "inheriting and carrying forward Chinese excellent traditional culture" and "cultural self-confidence".On this basis,we establish the goal of applying Chinese traditional culture in middle school physics education.This is conducive to promoting the development of students' Core competence of Physics discipline.At the same time,we put forward four principles for applying Chinese traditional culture-Science Principle,Value Principle,Innovation Principle,and Fun Principle.We also summarize five ways to effectively exploit traditional Chinese cultural materials,which are accumulating,classifying,summarizing,and sorting textual materials;discovering cultural monuments,recording and archiving them in time;focusing on local culture and national inheritance;paying attention to daily life and discovering scientific knowledge;sorting out cultural materials which are matched to the knowledge in the middle school books.We finally conclude the five major strategies for applying Chinese traditional culture,which are screening material contents and digging deep into physical knowledge;skillfully using traditional culture to promote the context creation;building physical models to strengthen the integration of arts and sciences;showing excellent culture with self-made teaching aids;integrating cultural connotations to improve moral education values.Based on the above-mentioned theories,principles,and strategies,this paper thoroughly excavates and sorts out the physics knowledge contained in ancient buildings,ancient poems,traditional production tools,ancient classics,combined with teaching and research needs.We put forward six cases about "Chinese traditional culture in middle school physics teaching Application" :Case 1: The application of ancient architectural culture in middle school physics teaching.We take ancient roads,bridges,water conservancy projects,and buildings as examples to explore the application of ancient architectural culture in middle school physics education.Then through the physical models,students are led to analyze the architecture of the ancient buildings.This will train students to use scientific thinking and to solve practical problems by scientific inquiry methods.Case 2: The application of ancient poetry in middle school physics teaching.We organize the ancient poems used in physics education into a series.After that,we take "the characteristics of sound" and "uniformly accelerated linear motion" as examples to carry out the practice of applying ancient poems in concept teaching,exercise teaching,and experimental teaching.With the help of traditional musical instruments,we create an immersive,poetic,and pictorial multi-sensory teaching situation experience for students,which is conducive to enhancing students' humanistic quality and artistic sentiment,stimulating students' interest in learning physics,and better improving their Core competence of Physics discipline.Case 3: The application of traditional agricultural tools in middle school physics teaching.Taking the "leverage principle" teaching as an example,we exploit teaching resources such as trolleys,carrying loads,and tongs to guide students to analyze their structures,build physical models,and conclude working principles.It enhances students' scientific thinking and problem-solving ability,and at the same time allows students to experience the wisdom of our working people,and develops students' sense of historical identity and pride in their hometown and motherland.Case 4: The application of ancient classics in middle school physics teaching.Taking "The Romance of the Three Kingdoms" as an example,we exploit the teaching resources of the story,such as "The Flooded Seven Armies","Grass Boat Borrowing Arrows",and "Chain Link".Then we complete the concept teaching of "Function and Energy" and the designs of the flat throwing exercises and force synthesis and decomposition experiments.We analyze the plot of the story through modeling analysis,mathematical calculations,and analogy experiments to achieve the integration of liberal arts and sciences,and improve students' humanistic quality and scientific thinking.Case 5: The innovative application of the traditional suspension bridge in self-made teaching aids of middle school physics.Based on the needs of middle school physics education,in order to restore the working principle of the "Tang Dynasty Suspension Bridge Site",under the guidance of the "STSE" educational concept,we use simple and easy-to-access materials to teach students to make their own bridge models.These scientific experiments can enhance students' sense of cultural identity and self-confidence,and help students develop scientific thinking and scientific capabilities to solve problems.Case 6: Applying traditional culture to achieve the goal of improving students' Core competence of Physics discipline.Taking the teaching of friction as an example,we help students form physical concepts by introducing glazed tile buildings,ancient war vehicles,and other outstanding examples of traditional culture.We also explain the principle of “lifting rice up by the steelyard” to break local superstitions and help students develop scientific thinking.Then we lead students to conduct scientific investigations and experiments with self-made teaching aids.Meantime,we analyze the physical principles behind the "ice play" activity,and help students acquire scientific exploration methods.We organize students into group activities to discuss the examples of the "friction" in daily life to help students form a scientific sense and thinking.The work of this paper: Based on the needs of teaching and research,we conduct a series of studies on Chinese traditional culture.By carefully selecting materials and digging out the physics knowledge in them,we exploit a series of traditional cultural teaching resources that are popular among students.At the same time,we design six excellent teaching cases.The corresponding research results in the paper have been published(or accepted)in physics teaching journals.
