In 2017,the Ministry of Education issued the document "Guidance on the work of after-school services for primary and secondary school students",in which it was pointed out that the development of after-school services for primary and secondary school students,followed by the introduction of relevant policy documents in each province and autonomous region to promote the development of after-school services in the region,and explore the development path and direction of after-school services in practice.In 2021,the Ministry of Education proposed to further promote after-school services and implement the "5+2" model,and in the "Opinions on Further Reducing the Burden of Homework and Out-of-School Training for Students in Compulsory Education",it was clearly pointed out that "the level of after-school services will be enhanced to meet the diversified needs of students",but the imperfect policies and regulations,the short duration of the services and the high requirements for the services have inevitably caused some problems in their implementation.This paper randomly selected some elementary school in City C to conduct a survey to understand the current situation of after-school services in elementary school from the perspectives of the demand and perception of after-school services,the process of implementing after-school services,the evaluation of the effectiveness of the after-school services,and the expectations and suggestions for the after-school services.Interviews were conducted with some teachers and parents to understand their thoughts and perceptions,which revealed a series of problems in the implementation of the current after-school service.Through the survey,we found that the current problems are mainly in the areas of bias in the cognition of service subjects,limitations in curriculum,inadequate teachers,and imperfect management system of after-school service.The causes of the above problems were : unclear policy guidance,insufficient school resources,and lack of participation outside school.In response to the above problems,we mainly focus on government-led sound policies and regulations,effective organization of after-school services in schools,and reasonable integration of out-of-school resources to propose improvement strategies for after-school services in elementary school,expecting their quality to improve and comprehensively promote students’ growth.
