The 2021 edition of the curriculum standards for the compulsory education subject of mathematics and the double reduction policy have placed new demands on the reform of mathematics teaching and learning in junior secondary schools.Starting from the real teaching situation,this paper explores the introduction of UbD theory into the widely recognized tiered cooperative teaching in the curriculum reform to generate a new teaching model for better implementation of students' core mathematical literacy.The first part of this study provides an in-depth analysis of the theoretical systems and practical experiences of tiered co-teaching and UbD teaching at home and abroad.In the second part,the teaching model of UbD-based tiered cooperation is elaborated and illustrated with quadratic functions as an example.In the third part,the current situation and challenges of tiered co-teaching are first explored using student questionnaires and teacher interviews.The feasibility and expected advantages of introducing the UbD concept in tiered co-teaching are dissected theoretically.A corresponding controlled teaching experiment with parallel classes is then designed to obtain relevant quantitative data and qualitative analysis.The experiment illustrates that UbD-based tiered teaching in teaching practice helps to improve students' learning performance to a certain extent and is a good strategy to improve teaching efficiency.The teaching strategy provides a gentle and co-ordinated reconfiguration of traditional teaching design;enables the design of teaching practices to minimize over-fragmentation and to achieve a systematic and continuous teaching design;and provides a theoretically and practically supported teaching model proposal for teachers to infuse higher-order thinking and learning habits into students and to develop their core mathematical literacy.
