The 21 st century is an era of high information,globalization and digitization.With the rapid development of science and technology,the requirement of "high speed,high efficiency and high quality" has made the competition for talents increasingly fierce,all of these put forward higher requirements for today’s education--what the society needs in the future is talents with higher level thinking ability,that is,with good critical thinking,creative thinking,problem-solving ability and scientific decision-making ability.Therefore,it is necessary to develop students ’ higher order thinking ability to adapt to the society and the Times.This dissertation focuses on the present situation of students’ higher order thinking skills in mathematics and how to improve it.On the basis of literature review,the concepts of higher order thinking and higher order thinking skills in mathematics are clearly defined,and the related research results of the evaluation and cultivation of higher order thinking skills at home and abroad are introduced,the theoretical basis of this dissertation is determined.Secondly,based on the cognitive process dimension in Bloom’s classification of educational goals and the classification of higher order thinking skills of Professor Zhong Zhixian,the framework of mathematics higher order thinking ability is revised on the basis of teacher’s questionnaire,the framework of the index system of 4 first-class indexes and 12 second-class indexes has been formed,and the test model of ability level was constructed,it is(10)(10)(10)(28)0.2D0.3C0.3B0.2AY,where Y stands for higher order thinking ability in mathematics,A for critical thinking ability,B for creative thinking ability,C for problem solving ability and D for optimal decision-making ability.Thirdly,based on the index system and the test model,the corresponding test questionnaire is designed.On the basis of the prediction test,the education statistical analysis is taken as the basic means,this paper investigates and analyzes the current situation of high order thinking ability of the students of grade two and grade three in five high schools in four areas of Fujian Province.The results show that:(1)the students’ higher order thinking ability in mathematics is average.The critical thinking ability and creative thinking ability of students are lower than problem-solving ability and decision-making ability.(2)there is no significant difference in senior high school students ’mathematics higher-order thinking ability in gender,but in grade and school.Finally,according to the investigation results,seven strategies are put forward to improve higher order thinking ability in mathematics subject,among which the teaching strategies of teachers include:(1)improving teachers’ quality and consciousness;(2)Refine high order target,guide and control the direction of cultivation;(3)skillfully setting mathematical problems,train thinking ability;(4)construct high-order environment,promote thinking development.Students’ learning strategies include:(1)laying a solid foundation for their subjects and building a knowledge network;(2)strengthening mathematical exchanges and promoting cooperative learning;(3)enhancing self-efficacy and capacity development;and(4)strengthening metacognitive awareness and leading higher order thinking.
