Mathematical modeling is a mathematical abstraction of life and production problems,and is a core literacy of a highly comprehensive mathematics subject.In this process,it is conducive to the construction of comprehensive practical ability and the ability to acquire knowledge independently.Therefore,it is very important to introduce mathematical modeling ideas in high school mathematics classrooms.The STEAM(specifically the abbreviation of the five words Science,Technology,Engineering,Arts,and Mathematics)emerging in the education circle provides an effective way for mathematical modeling teaching.From the need to solve real life problems are multidisciplinary integrated this feature,STEAM education philosophy to help students look at practical issues from multiple perspectives of scientific knowledge,technological tools,engineering thinking,artistic literacy and mathematical logic.The STEAM education philosophy provides new comprehensive ideas for solving problems,so it has educational research and practical value.Under the guidance of STEAM education philosophy,to rethink the direction of mathematical modeling teaching is worth studying.Based on the integration of STEAM education philosophy and mathematical modeling teaching,this paper carried out a three-month research in the practice school(No.6 High School of Xiamen,Fujian).Analyze and discuss with the Literature Research Method,Theoretical Research Method,Comparative Research Method,and Case Research Method,and obtain three research results.First,to study the relationship between STEAM education philosophy,mathematical modeling and middle school mathematics through the method of literature data and theoretical research.Discovered that the STEAM education philosophy connects mathematics knowledge with the reality of life,and provides a Problem situation for mathematics learning.Mathematical modeling is closely related to the cognitive process of students,which helps students construct knowledge systems,form meta-cognitions,and solve problems.Second,through comparative study,two different materials as the carrier,selected two cases were recorded and reflection on teaching the general curriculum.Then hold a mathematical modeling competition in the school as a school-based curriculum research.These three cases reflect the characteristics of two different textbooks,as well as the teaching characteristics of the general course of mathematical modeling and the schoolbased course.These three cases reflect the characteristics of two different materials,as well as features on mathematical modeling teaching general curriculum and school-based curriculum,and give advice.Third,record the complete teaching process of three cases through case analysis.The teaching of mathematical modeling based on the STEAM education philosophy in the textbook adopts Project-based Learning and Hands-on Inquiry Based Learning.The teaching of mathematical modeling based on the STEAM educational philosophy in the school-based curriculum adopts the learning method of "three stages and five links".Analyze the development of students' mathematical modeling ability in three cases.
