Socio-scientific Issues(SSI)refer to the controversial social Issues caused by the development and application of science and technology,which involve many aspects such as science,economy,culture,ethics,ecological environment,etc.Introducing social science issues into classroom SSI teaching puts students in real issue situations,surpasses the conventional knowledge learning mode,and develops students' ability to think and make decisions on social life issues with critical thinking as the focus in discussion and exploration.Based on the background of high school chemistry,this study attempts to explore the strategies and practical results of SSI teaching to cultivate students' critical thinking,so as to provide reference for teachers to carry out SSI teaching and improve students' critical thinking.Specific research paths are as follows.First of all,literature research method is adopted to sort out and analyze literature on the connotation of critical thinking,assessment methods,the meaning and characteristics of SSI and SSI teaching,so as to lay the theoretical foundation for subsequent research.Secondly,the questionnaire survey method was used to understand the development status of critical thinking of high school students,the cognition and development status of SSI teaching of high school chemistry teachers,the common means to cultivate students' critical thinking and the willingness to develop students' critical thinking through SSI teaching.Then,the text analysis method is adopted to sort out and list the social science topics that are closely combined with the textbook and suitable for implementation in high school chemistry class.Based on literature and survey results,the teaching strategies of high school chemistry SSI teaching to cultivate students' critical thinking are proposed,and the corresponding teaching cases are designed.Finally,an experimental class and a control class were set up by using the educational experiment method,and the SSI teaching strategies and cases developed were put into practice in the experimental class.With the help of CTDI-CV scale,the influence of SSI teaching activities on students' critical thinking tendency is evaluated by the way of comparison before and after testing,so as to provide an operational scheme for the role of social science issues in middle school chemistry teaching.The research conclusions are as follows:1.The cultivation of students' critical thinking has attracted increasing attention and attention from researchers.SSI teaching is one of the important means.2.The critical thinking tendency of the two Grade One students taught during the internship is generally neutral,which needs to be improved.3.High school chemistry teachers have a low understanding of SSI teaching,but they recognize its teaching value,and most of them are willing to try to develop students' critical thinking through SSI teaching.4.The content of social science topics contained in the senior high school chemistry textbooks of the New Jiangsu Education Edition is relatively rich.Teachers can make use of these resources to organize students to conduct dialogues around the contradictions and disputes involved in the topics,so as to improve their critical thinking.5.The teaching strategies to cultivate students' critical thinking in SSI teaching of high school chemistry include: clarifying social science issues and critical thinking;system design tasks,class after class overall arrangement;integrate into the real situation,problems guide the development of thinking;skillfully use teaching methods to provide sufficient time for discussion;pay attention to combing and summary,promote the sublimation of emotion and thinking.6.It is feasible and popular for students to introduce SSI teaching into high school chemistry course learning.Through SSI teaching activities,the overall level of critical thinking tendency of the experimental class students has undergone significant changes,especially in the four dimensions of "truth seeking","systematization","confidence" and "cognitive maturity".It can be seen that SSI teaching in high school chemistry plays a positive role in cultivating students' critical thinking.
