Critical thinking ability of individuals is one of the accomplishments to adapt to the information age. To this end, the field of education of the countries in the world attaches great importance to the training and research. China’s high school chemistry course also put the ability of critical thinking as an important content objective. However, the data show that critical thinking ability of high school students in chemical field of education is scarce. Though meanwhile, the survey also showed that high school students’critical thinking ability need to be improved.For this reason, the author used a variety of methods, such as questionnaires, interviews, classroom observation, to research the status of critical thinking ability of high school students as well as the factors that affect students’ critical thinking ability.The results show that the status of high school students’ critical thinking ability has the following characteristics.(1)High school students’ critical thinking ability in chemistry learning needs to be improved;(2)For the students of different grades, their critical thinking ability has a very significant difference;(3)The critical thinking ability of high school students have differences between grades, but not significant.(4)The critical thinking ability of boys is slightly higher than that of girls, but there is no significant difference.The results showed that students’ interest in chemistry learning, the richness of knowledge and experience, the level of thinking ability and character have a certain impact on students’ critical thinking ability. At the same time, the following external factors also greatly affect students’ critical thinking ability.(1)Evaluation process and the method and value orientation impact initiative of students’ critical thinking;(2)Concent of selection and presentation in materials affect the awareness and critical learning of students’critical thinking; (3)The guide of teacher in the classroom influence the development of students’critical thinking in all aspects;On this basis, the author puts forward some Suggestions to improve the critical thinking ability of high school students.(1) Update ideas, pay attention to the cultivation of the students especially senior students’ critical thinking;(2) In every link of the teaching use a variety of methods to permeate the cultivation of critical thinking skills;(3) Pay attention to students’ individual difference in the progress to develop students’ critical thinking.
