| Novel teaching plays a pivotal role in language teaching as an important medium for developing students’ language literacy,yet there are many problems with novel teaching in current practice that make it difficult for students to develop novel reading skills.Reverse design advocates the design concepts of "understanding first" and "beginning with the end in mind",and follows a clear expectation of learning outcomes-identifying assessment evidence that demonstrates students’ understanding--Arrange related learning activities to achieve students’ comprehension learning goals.In order to enrich the research on reverse design in primary language subjects,and to solve the real-life problems and optimize the design ideas of novel teaching,we try to introduce reverse design into primary language novel teaching and explore a new model of reverse design in primary language novel teaching.This paper investigates the current situation of novel teaching in elementary school N,where the action is planned to be implemented,by using classroom observation and interviews according to the value guidelines of reverse design,and finds that the current novel teaching has problems such as vague and generalized teaching objectives,solidified and boring teaching activities,formal teaching evaluation.Based on a full understanding of the current situation of novel teaching in this elementary school,the action research method was used to carry out a study on the implementation of novel reverse design.The action research took the students of Class 5 of Grade 6 of Primary School N as the research object,and used two texts,"The Poor" and "The Bridge",as the text carriers to practice the novel reverse design program.The action research was divided into two rounds: the first round of action was the trial and exploration stage of novel reverse design implementation,focusing on the paths and ways of realizing the three stages of reverse design in novel teaching;the second round of action was the improvement and enhancement stage of novel reverse design implementation,focusing on the achievement of the six sides of comprehension in novel reverse design.At the end of the two actions,the whole action process was summarized and reflected upon and the following research conclusions were drawn.1.primary language novel teaching needs the theoretical guidance of reverse design,which can break the shackles of novel teaching mode and improve students’ novel reading ability.2.There are three effective ways to apply reverse design in elementary school novel teaching:determining the basic questions and expected goals based on the three elements of the novel is the key element of novel reverse design implementation;using the six sides of comprehension and WHERETO to organize activities is an important channel for novel reverse design implementation;and a comprehensive evaluation system based on expressive evaluation is an effective evaluation strategy for novel reverse design implementation.3.The application of reverse design in primary language novel teaching is effective.Reverse design novel teaching can not only enhance students’ novel learning experience,but also update teachers’ novel teaching philosophy,and then achieve a breakthrough in novel teaching mode.Based on the research and reflections,we propose suggestions for teachers and subsequent researchers on the implementation of novel reverse design: pay attention to the determination of expected outcomes of novel learning,adopt theory while taking into account flexible implementation,and be more inclusive in evaluation indexes and gauges. |
