Reading is an important way for learners to obtain information, and good reading literacy plays an important role in cultivating learners' lifelong learning ability. Therefore, how to improve the reading literacy of primary school students deserves our in-depth thinking.PIRLS has a complete scientific assessment system, which divides students' reading ability into four levels, namely "attention and retrieval of clearly stated information","direct reasoning","interpretation and integration of information","assessment of content and text" element".According to different reading purposes, two types of texts are divided, namely literature and information, which aim to evaluate students' reading literacy more comprehensively.Mainly using the interview survey method and text analysis method to interview the Chinese teachers of the fourth grade of the S primary school, and distribute the PIRLS2016 test paper to the fourth grade of the S primary school to obtain the students' reading performance in the two different texts. The study found that there are the following problems in the Chinese reading literacy of the fourth grade students of S primary school: the overall development of students' reading ability is unbalanced;the reading participation and enthusiasm are not high;the awareness of reading information texts is weak;the reading thinking is test-oriented and mechanized. Therefore,it can be improved from four aspects: paying attention to the balanced development of students' overall ability;cultivating students' positive reading attitude and interest;enhancing students' awareness of reading various types of texts;and shaping students' in-depth and flexible thinking possibilities.
