There are some problems in traditional REDOX teaching such as concept indoctrination and lack of comprehensive representation of knowledge.To carry out effective teaching of REDOX reaction,it is necessary to find and develop representational dimensions suitable for REDOX knowledge.The tetra representation of REDOX reaction proposed in this paper refers to the representation of REDOX reaction knowledge from four dimensions of “macro-micro-characterquantity”,and each representation dimension is further subdivided into three levels.Through literature research,paper and pen tests and interview studies,it was found that high school students had low level ability of REDOX reaction characterization.The teaching model of REDOX reaction based on tetra representation was constructed and the teaching practice were carried out.Tetra representation ability test and case interview were carried out before and after teaching intervention.This study focuses on “What is the status of the tetra representation of REDOX reaction in high school students?” “How to construct the teaching model of REDOX reaction tetra representation?” “How effective is the application of REDOX tetra representation model in teaching?”This study consists of three sub-studies,and the three conclusions are as follows:(1)Students are generally weak in REDOX reaction characterization,especially in quantitative characterization.According to the case interviews,the main reasons for the difficulty in understanding REDOX reaction knowledge are the large amount of knowledge and too abstract knowledge.(2)Combined with the current investigation results and literature research,a teaching model of REDOX reaction was constructed based on the tetra representation of "macro-micro-characterquantity",which included the establishment of teaching objective: tetra representation ability.The path of developing representational ability: sequential representation,model construction and transfer application.Methods of representation ability training: animation demonstration,concept drawing,column calculation and experimental operation.(3)The teaching of REDOX reaction based on the tetra representation of "macro-microcharacter-quantity-redox reaction" can improve students' ability of REDOX reaction representation,and the improvement of symbolic and quantitative representation is the most significant.
