In the context of the "double reduction" policy,as a form of homework and an important teaching resource in the textbook, giving full play to the teaching value of post-lesson exercises in explanatory texts will be conducive to "improving the quality and efficiency" of school education. In addition,in the era of knowledge and information, the role of expository learning in developing students' ability to extract and integrate key information has become more and more prominent, thus, the effectiveness of expository teaching is worth further investigation. The body of this thesis is divided into four parts. The first part is the introduction.First,it introduces the origin of the study;second,it explains the purpose of the study and its theoretical and practical significance;second,it reviews the current status of research on related topics;then,it introduces the research ideas and methods of the paper as a whole;finally,it defines the core concepts. The second part is to grasp the preparation of the exercises from the macro level.Firstly, the theoretical basis for the organization of the after-school exercises includes the compulsory education curriculum standards,Bloom's taxonomy theory of educational objectives and learning theory;secondly, the after-school exercises are written in accordance with the fundamental task of establishing moral education, the cultivation of students' core language literacy and the extension of extracurricular reading. This chapter will provide a theoretical basis for the effective use of post-lesson exercises in explanatory texts. The third part is a micro-level analysis of the characteristics and teaching value of exercises. The characteristics of the post-lesson exercises on expository texts are analyzed from three aspects: the selection of texts and the preparation of the content of the exercises, the type of questions and their distribution characteristics, and the way of presenting the exercises. In terms of the teaching value of the exercises, the uniqueness of a single text, the focus on spiritual and cultural enrichment, the concern for higher-order thinking training, and the richness of interdisciplinary resources are highlighted. This chapter provides realistic conditions for the denationalization of post-lesson exercises on expository texts. The fourth part is the current situation and analysis of the use of exercises.First,a survey is conducted using both questionnaires and interviews;second, the use of after-school exercises by teachers and students is analyzed and conclusions are drawn. This chapter provides a realistic basis for proposing targeted strategies for the denationalization of exercises. The fifth part is a strategy for optimizing exercises in the teaching of expository texts. In the lesson preparation session, the exercises are drilled, the teaching objectives are clarified, and the teaching is planned as a whole. In classroom teaching, students' higher-order thinking is strengthened with the help of extended application exercises;the exercises are integrated to realize knowledge sequencing;interdisciplinary resources are fully utilized;and their cultural connotations are paid attention to.In the evaluation session,we should incorporate exercises into classroom teaching, focus on diversifying evaluation subjects, and conduct process evaluation. This chapter,as the main focus of the whole text,is expected to provide some reference value for the actual teaching of expository texts.
