Since China's reform and opening-up,the level of women's cause has been further developed,and "she-power" has been constantly rising.Women,while realizing their self-worth,have become powerful enablers and builders of social development.In the environment of rapid development of media technology and multi-dimensional and polygenetic media channels,in a sense the mass media has shaped the main impression and cognition of women image.The study on the construction of women's media image has become one of the indispensable perspectives for observing the changes in Chinese society.Based on the theoretical perspective of media construction and the research methods of literature analysis and content analysis,this paper takes CHINA PICTORIAL,the national comprehensive photographic magazine,as the research object.Teasing out the image characteristics and the changing process of the female image created by the cover of CHINA PICTORIAL since the reform and opening-up,this paper tries to probe into the interaction between the media and society.163 samples from 1980 to 2021 were selected and organized into three stages:1980-1991,1992-2010 and 2011-2021,according to the background of the times and the characteristics of the cover.The paper is divided into five parts.The first part focuses on the research content,methods,significance and theory foundation of construction.The second part examines the selected samples,summarizing and concluding the cover female image of CHINA PICTORIAL in three stages.The third part analyzes the causes of the changes on the cover female image of CHINA PICTORIAL,from the three following aspects,society,economy and culture.The fourth part is based on the above research,exploring the construction and dissemination of CHINA PICTORIAL on the female image,which thereby having a deeper construction effect on society.The fifth part summarizes and discusses the full text.The research finds that women's media images were mostly related to culture and sports industries from 1980 to 1991,more open and pluralistic from 1992 to 2010,and able to play a role in foreign exchange from 2011 to 2021.In addition,from the perspective of the concrete elements that make up a woman's image,the women's images shaped by CHINA PICTORIAL in these three stages also show certain laws in terms of dress type,professional identity,activity environment and so on.Specifically,the types of clothes were more fashionable and new,professional identities were more diverse,and the background environment were much more urban.Macro-environmental factors such as social transformation,economic development,cultural prosperity and foreign exchange have had important impacts on the changing factors of the female images constructed by Media.Moreover,the mass media and reality situations are in dynamic two-way construction.Society constructs the contents of CHINA PICTORIAL,at the same time,the female image on the cover of CHINA PICTORIAL also provides aesthetic demonstration to the audience,leads the civilized way of life,and strengthens the public identity with the mainstream value of society.CHINA PICTORIAL's reports on typical characters in conjunction with social development requirements,have played a positive role in guiding public opinion,promoting social communication and stabilizing social psychology,and have shown the social integration function of the mainstream media.
