The "Compulsory Education Mathematics Curriculum Standards(2022 Edition)" puts forward nine core qualities including model concepts, laying the foundation for the status of model concepts in junior high school education. In addition, the book "New Curriculum Standards for High School Mathematics(2017 Edition)" for the first time, mathematical modeling literacy is proposed as the core literacy of mathematics, and mathematical modeling literacy is used as one of the bases for measuring the learning level of high school students. Therefore, mathematical modeling literacy is a basic literacy that contemporary middle school students must have, requiring students to master and use mathematical knowledge to solve practical problems. This paper mainly investigates the current situation of the mathematical modeling literacy level of eighth-grade students, and selects a school in the urban area of L City,Jiangxi Province that can reflect the medium level of the city as the survey school, and takes the eighth-grade students of the school as the survey object.First, taking the bibliocre approach to research, based on the mathematical framework of the PISA 2021 literacy test and Hohenstein's theory of classification of educational goals, this paper establishes the mathematical modeling literacy test framework, which contains four dimensions: mathematical modeling situation, mathematical modeling content, mathematical modeling process, and mathematical modeling emotion. The content of the mathematical modeling literacy evaluation is determined according to the intrinsic relationship between the PISA 2021 test framework and the SOLO classification theory, and the survey results are divided into 5 levels in turn, from level 0 to level 4.Based on this,by combing the relevant content of mathematical modeling in the textbook and combining the opinions of front-line teachers, the questionnaire and test paper used in this study were determined.Secondly, through the analysis of the test results of the questionnaire and test paper of the eighth grade students,it was found that: the eighth grade students were very unfamiliar with the concept of mathematical modeling and its steps, students' overall mathematical modeling literacy is basically at level 2,that is,students can understand the real situation in the modeling problem, and most of the mathematical structure can be found from the situation, and students have a certain confidence in this, but because the clues found are not enough or the model is not accurately established, the mathematical problem cannot be solved completely, and the recognition of modeling by students at this time is general. In the process of mathematical modeling of students, the ability to apply mathematics is poor, and their computing ability needs to be improved, and in the evaluation process, students do not have the ability to test and reflect on the model, resulting in the inability to solve the problem smoothly and completely. Finally, this study also explores the cultivation of students' mathematical modeling literacy from the perspective of teachers.Through further investigation in the form of teachers interviews and classroom observations,it was found that the possible reasons for this situation include pressure to progress to higher education, the development direction of the school's teacher team, the failure to establish a perfect mathematical modeling teaching evaluation mechanism, and the insufficient reserve of teachers' modeling teaching knowledge.
