Research On The Mission,Vision And Values Of The World-class Universities

In today's world,the competition between countries is ultimately the competition of education and talent.World-class universities,as outstanding institutions of higher learning,are bound to rely on a complete set of educational concepts--mission,vision and values--for their progress from start-up to success and from success to excellence.In order to build world-class universities,the Chinese government has issued a series of policies to promote the development of higher education.However,if China wants to build a world-class university and realize "overtaking at the corner",it can refer to and use the successful school-running idea of the world-class university for our own use.Firstly,the paper sorts out and evaluates the research of concept,characteristics and functions of world-class universities at home and abroad.On this basis,it interprets and defines the world-class universities,missions,visions and values.Secondly,because world-class universities are a relatively vague concept,and different screening criteria have different results,this study selects the scope of the world-class universities based on the comprehensive rankings of the four famous universities in the world,including THE,QS,US News and ARWU.After comprehensive screening,18 world-class universities were selected as the research objects of this study.Thirdly,Use text analysis to analyze the formation of the mission,vision and values of world-class universities,including the reasons and results(content display).In the analysis of the reasons,this research believes that the historical background and cultural tradition have a profound impact on the mission,vision and values of world-class universities.In addition,the characteristics of its expression were analyzed in terms of text and content separately,and it was found that in terms of its expression,mission,vision,and values had their own characteristics,and the textual expression was either concise or clear.The common feature of the content is that they all reflect the four basic functions of the university: talent training,scientific research,social service and cultural inheritance.Fourthly,on the basis of analyzing the expressions and characteristics of C9 members universities' mission,vision and values separately,this paper compares and analyzes attention focus and presentation structure's differences between world-class universities and C9 universities.Stones from other hills,can learn.If our country wants to build world-class universities and realize our educational power,we must first clarify the importance of its mission,vision and values.After that,this study proposes two suggestions: the first one is to carry forward the university spirit and return to the true nature of education by inheriting Chinese culture,rooting in Chinese characteristics,insisting on academic freedom,improving the quality of education,cultivating good citizens,and improving the overall quality of society.The second one is to improve the top-level design and clarify the school concept by formulating or reconsidering and promoting the mission,vision and values of the university.Chinese universities should inherit the excellent traditional culture of the Chinese nation and build a world-class university with Chinese characteristics whenever we learn the experience of world-class universities.
