With the rapid economic development and rising income levels of residents, the strong demand for studying abroad has made China the world's largest exporter of studying abroad.Despite having an overseas university diploma, there is no obvious competitive advantage when returning to work in China. Also, there are many risks in studying abroad. However, the data in recent years shows that the scale of studying abroad has increased significantly, and the trend of younger students studying abroad still exists.High school students studying abroad are the most common in the basic education stage, and most of them are self-funded study abroad.Compared with domestic university education, they will pay a higher cost or price. What is the motivation behind this self-funded study abroad behavior? It is worth discussing. We chose Wuhan,a metropolis in the central region,to investigate and study this issue. The research is based on consumer psychology and behavior theory, taking Wuhan high school students as the research object, starting from the students' consumption attitudes, consumption motives and group consumption psychology, and conducting empirical research on the motivations of high school students studying abroad through a combination of questionnaire surveys and interviews. The study found that high school students' cognition of domestic and foreign university education affects their attitudes towards overseas education consumption, and the difference in education attitudes between domestic and foreign universities is greater.Larger, individuals have stronger preference for foreign university education;self-financed study abroad motivation is complex and diverse. There are four main motivations: self-actualization motivation, others identification motivation, environmental attraction motivation, stress relief motivation, and students' motivations for studying abroad are different in terms of gender, grade, grade ranking, parents' education level, family economic status, and overseas experience. Finally, the behavior of high school students studying abroad at their own expense will be affected by social groups, classmates, friends, parents and relatives. The influence of teachers and other types of groups is herd.Among these groups, students are more affected by their parents, classmates and friends. It puts forward some relevant suggestions to reasonably guide Wuhan high school students to study abroad from the perspective of individual high school students studying abroad, their families, schools, and relevant government departments. The specific countermeasures are as follows: broaden the channels of information acquisition, improve the individual students and families' awareness of the consumption of study abroad education;strengthen the guidance of students' personal motivation for studying abroad education;reduce the conformity and blindness of individual students and their families studying abroad;improve the quality of China's higher education enhances the international competitiveness of our university education.
