Family Income,community Participation And Residents' Interpersonal Trust

The 14 th five-year plan for National Economic and Social Development and the Long-Range Objectives Through the year 2035,proposes we should promote the culture and the construction of integrity.The survey report of "Blue Book of social mentality" in 2019 also indicated that the public's sense of pressure mainly comes from income,social relations,employment and other fields.With the continuous breeding of these social problems,the public's sense of pressure is increasing.In our daily life,the level of income is an important factor that affects people to get social resources and rights.That ' s to say,it will effect the mobility of different strata.The long-term income gap will gradually lead to the polarization of people's social attitudes and estrangement which are bad for social interaction,and will eventually cut down the people's sense of trust.As one of important factors of promoting social and economic development and building a harmonious society,people has realized the importance of interpersonal trust,so the analysis on the influence path of interpersonal trust has been a popular topic for scholars in different fields.Previous studies mostly started from the level of individual wage income,which shows that the level of income,as a key indicator for judging social and economic status,is an important factor affecting individual social cognition.While my study will take the family as a unit,considering that the family economic situation will influence the individual's life from their childhood,and will imperceptibly affect their social attitudes and cognition,so it will be more stable to investigate the family economic situation to the individual's interpersonal trust to in some certain ways.This study takes the income of families as the independent variable,and introduces community participation as an intermediary variable,trying to dissect the influence path of family income on interpersonal trust,and here are the results of the empirical research based on CSS2017 survey data.(1)The basic situation of family income level.There are obvious differences between the rural residents and the urban about their income.The average income level of rural residents is lower than that of urban residents,and the gap between rural families is bigger than that of urban families.From the perspective of interpersonal trust,the special trust degree of Chinese residents is relatively the highest,followed by the general trust degree,while the common trust degree is the lowest.That's to say,most people are not willing to trust strangers whom they do not have a certain relationship with.Besides,the community participation rate of Chinese residents is relatively high,and alumni associations are the most popular among all types of associations.Relatively speaking,professional groups,non-governmental organizations,social organizations and other groups have narrower audiences.(2)The relationship between the level of family income and the dimensions of interpersonal trust in China.Residents' family income has a significant positive effect on the common trust level and residents' general trust level.In another word,with the increase of family income,residents' general trust level and general trust level will also increase;while there is no obvious correlation between family income and special trust.(3)The relationship dimensions of family income,community participation and interpersonal trust.Family income level has a positive predictive effect on residents' community participation behavior,and community participation will be affected by family income and indirectly have a positive effect on common trust and general trust;in addition,community participation has a significant positive effect on special trust,there is no direct effect but only a mediating effect between family income and special trust.Based on the relationship among family income,community participation and interpersonal trust,this study proposes some measures to improve the level of interpersonal trust in China by narrowing the income gap between the urban and the rural residents and stabilizing farmers income;guiding people to participate in community activities actively to achieve more social interactions,establishing goodness social interaction mechanism to create a good social environment for residents to communicate with each other.It is expected to provide the theoretical support and policy references for the country to improve the level of social trust so that we can build a harmonious society successfully.
