With the further application and promotion of the household-based production contract responsibility system since the reform and opening up,farmers’ enthusiasm for production has become increasingly high, which has brought tremendous momentum and vitality to the development of China’s agriculture.Under such a macro background,Jiangxi Province also ushered in a new peak of agricultural development.Since ancient times,Jiangxi Province has become an important grain-producing area and crop planting area in China due to its favorable geographical location and suitable climatic conditions, and has made great contributions to the agricultural economic development of the country. However, while the economy continues to develop, the agricultural industry in Jiangxi Province has also ushered in new problems and challenges. With the rapid advancement of urbanization and the increasingly fierce domestic and foreign market competition, the long-term contradiction of poor endowment of agricultural resources such as having more people and less land in Jiangxi Province has become more prominent.Economic environment. Therefore,to ensure the sustainable development of agriculture in Jiangxi Province,we must adhere to the development path of intensive growth. In economic theory, the main way to judge whether a region’s economic growth is extensive or intensive is to see how its total factor productivity contributes to economic growth, that is,to realize the agricultural economy of Jiangxi Province Sustainable and stable development,we must increase the contribution of agricultural total factor productivity to economic growth. Therefore, based on the panel data of various districts and cities in Jiangxi Province from 1996 to 2018,this paper uses the DEA-Malmquist index method in a non-parametric method to measure the agricultural total factor productivity in Jiangxi Province over the years and in various regions according to DEAP 2.1 software. The temporal evolution of agricultural total factor productivity in Jiangxi Province from 1996 to 2018 and the spatial distribution of each region.Based on the calculation results, this paper draws the following conclusions:First, the static economic efficiency of agricultural production in Jiangxi Province during the period under review was still at a low level, and the growth rate of agricultural total factor productivity was relatively slow.Second, technological progress is the main source of agricultural total factor productivity growth in Jiangxi Province, and technical efficiency loss is an important obstacle restricting agricultural development.Third, agricultural development in various regions is not stable, and regional differences are significant. In view of the above conclusions, this paper believes that Jiangxi Province still needs to further accelerate the development of agricultural production and the pace of structural reforms on the supply side.In particular,it is necessary to adhere to the strategy of promoting agriculture through science and technology and promote the advancement of agricultural technology;strengthen the rational allocation of resources and reduce the loss of agricultural efficiency;Improve the quality of agricultural factors;adopt a differentiated strategic approach to comprehensively coordinate the development of agricultural total factor productivity in various regions;give full play to the government’s leading role in coordination, and complete the transition from an extensive growth mode to an intensive growth mode as soon as possible.
