Research On Climate Adaptability Of Traditional Dwellings Based On Response Philosophy

In the context of globalization and regionalism,while China absorbs the foreign culture,it also initially builds its architectural paradigm.‘Regionalism’ has gradually focused on people’s attention,prompting architects from different cities and cultural experiences to carry out the regional characteristics of architecture research.Nowadays,people rely too much on mechanical equipment to adjust the interior environment quality,resulting in energy crisis and other related problems,which is contrary to building a resource-saving and environment-friendly society.While the traditional houses are adapted to the local climate through passive regulation,which is simple and easy to implement and has low or zero energy consumption.There is a critical principled stand in Chinese cultural traditions that man is an integral part of nature,which is the same as the ecological concept mentioned.Meanwhile,traditional dwellings are the materialized manifestation of philosophical thoughts.Therefore,author turns attention back to the tradition and reanalyzes the climatic responsive measures of traditional dwellings with philosophical thinking,hoping to inherit the ecological logic of traditional dwellings and apply it to the design of modern buildings in an innovative way.In this way,it creates a comfortable interior environment with less energy,and reflects the regional characteristics and inherits ideas and context.The author selects the traditional dwellings in the south of Jiangsu,which is hot summer and cold winter area,as the research object.Based on the response philosophy,it uses several research methods,including theoretical research and practical research,qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis,type analysis to comprehensive research,spatial and temporal dimensions,to analyze the climatic responsive measures.There are seven chapters in this paper.The first chapter is the introduction,which is basic research.The second chapter is the interpretation of the responsive architectural concept.And the third chapter is the analysis of the natural environment in southern Jiangsu.The following three chapters are the core content,analyzing the performance of the response philosophy in the climate adaptation of traditional dwellings.The seventh chapter draws conclusions and implications.The paper’s content first explains the concept of responsive architecture,from the initial explanation of the concept,connotation and application principles.It further explains ‘climatic response’,‘climatic response of architecture’ and ‘climatic response of traditional dwellings’,which lays a philosophical and theoretical foundation for the research.Then,according to the topography,hydrology and meteorological parameters,southern Jiangsu’s geographical environment and climatic characteristics are summarized.According to the three principles of response: overall balance,bipolar control,and dynamic openness,the performance of the responsive architectural concept is summarized into three aspects: overall response,moderate response,and dynamic response.Based on these three responsive perspectives,the climatic responsive measures of traditional dwellings in southern Jiangsu are analyzed.Firstly,based on the overall response,the analysis focuses on three aspects,including the layout of village groups,the spatial form and the construction techniques of dwellings.Secondly,based on the moderate response,in addition to the above,the measured data of temperature and humidity in Ganxi’s former dwelling is compared with the relative comfort zone of the human body in Nanjing.Thirdly,based on the dynamic response,it analyzes the adaptation strategies of dwellings in different historical periods,and analyzes strategies in different seasons and different times in the same period.Also,it analyzes human behaviour following climate change.Finally,the author summarizes the experience,and extracts the connotation reflected by the climate adaptive design of the architectures under the climatic characteristics.Meanwhile,it discusses the ecological wisdom in the traditional dwellings translated and puts forward the prospect of the subject.On the basis of previous research,this paper comprehensively and systematically sorts out from the perspective of response philosophy.On the one hand,in order to rediscover the philosophical connotation of traditional Chinese architecture.On the other hand,it can enlighten on the way of thinking.
